APRIL 7, 1860
Kimberly squinted into the sunlight as she headed out of the Rusty Trigger and started up the main street. She had been looking forward to getting outside into the fresh air, and felt relieved to get out of the smoky atmosphere of the saloon. She was just passing Cromwells Mercantile, when someone came out of the door and walked straight into her, knocking them both to the ground.
"Oh dear, Im so sorry, I should have been looking where I was going." The young man picked himself up and held out a hand to help Kimberly to her feet.
"Well I didnt see you either, so I guess were even. Oh, its Lou isnt it?" Kimberly grinned as she handed Lou an apple that had been dropped.
"Hi Kimberly, I know you told me that you were clumsy, but theres no need to bring it on other people," Lou smiled as she straightened her hat.
Kimberly laughed as she wiped the dust of her skirt, "Oh, its just one of my charms. I do get a feeling of De ja vue though. Ive done this sort of thing many times."
"Well, Ill try and avoid you next time," Lou tried to stifle a laugh as she watched Kimberly stumble backwards into a puddle.
"Look at that, the only puddle in the street and I step in it, so which way are you headed, Lou?"
"Just going for a walk, I guess. Sometimes its nice to get away from it all. Theres only so much horse manure one can take. What about you?"
"The same, except in my case its drunks."
"Well, Since were both not doing anything, how about we go for a walk and get some lunch, huh?" Lou asked as they headed off down the street.
"Ok, but Ill ask you to keep your clumsiness to yourself. A lady such as myself is seen with decorum and dignity." Kimberly burst into laughter as Lou gave her a friendly punch.
