FEBRUARY 20, 1861
Kimberly leaned across the bar and picked up the empty glasses. She was feeling bored and desperately wanted to go on a break. She knew that Tyson had left for lunch two hours ago and still hadnt returned. She smiled to herself when she thought of where he probably was, or who he was probably with.
Looking around the dimly lit bar she sighed inwardly, not even Richard was here to talk to. Tyson had given him a couple of days off, saying that they could handle things. Well, she could always count on Tyson to drop her in it. Not that the Rusty Trigger was busy. It was just the opposite, a few regulars, a few travelers, and that was the reason she was bored. She loved a little excitement. Kimberly shook her head, "Excitement? Not likely."
"What did you say?"
Kimberly gasped with surprise as she looked the owner of the unfamiliar voice in the eye, "Uuh, nothing," Her voice stuck in her throat as her eyes traveled down the newcomers face. She noted with some satisfaction that he was extremely good looking, "Uh, can I help you with something?"
The man smiled broadly, "You already have my dear, just seeing you has been enough to brighten my whole day."
Kimberly laughed and shook her head, "If only it was so easy."
He reached over and took her hand in his, "It can be, Im Jake Fresno. Its certainly a pleasure to be in your company."
"Uh, Kimberly Marmont," Kimberly stuttered as she looked into his eyes. She reluctantly withdrew her hand from his grip and placed a glass in front of him, "Care for a drink Mr. Fresno?"
"Dont mind if I do honey, but call me Jake." Kimberly rolled her eyes with amusement as she filled up his glass, "Okay, but you can call me, whatever you like," Kimberly started laughing but froze when a voice rang out behind her.
"Ahem!"
She slowly turned around to find Tyson standing with his arms crossed. "Aah, um, uh, back so soon Ty?"
Kimberly was just about to turn her attention back to Jake when she saw him out of the corner of her eye. He sat down at a table and got dealt in.
Tyson glared at her, "What were you doing with that feller?"
"Nothing, just being friendly is all," Kimberly shrugged her shoulders and started to move away.
Tyson followed behind her, "That is not what I call friendly. You were all over him. You gotta be careful with men like that."
Kimberly laughed, "Uh, hate to break it to you, Tyson, but youre a little like that. Well you used to be anyway. Enough of the brotherly talk okay, Im going to take a break."
Tyson looked after her with his mouth open. Kimberly walked back and shut his jaw closed, "I might be a while," she grinned as she flounced out the door, leaving Tyson shaking his head.
