JUNE 13, 1861

Kid rode into Dreamville. He went to the hotel looking for Jennifer but was notified by Marta that she wasn't in because Marta had seen her leave not too long ago. Kid walked out of the hotel, took off his hat and scratched his head. He thought about where Jennifer might be, and he decided to check the boutique, so he headed across the street.

Well, obviously Jennifer wasn't there because the shop was closed. The saloon was closed, too, but he doubt she would be there even if it were open. So he decided to check the restaurant. There were a few people there but not Jennifer. He left and went over to the jailhouse. Maybe Teaspoon could tell him where she was, so he wouldn't have to look all over the place for her. He was glad Ike had returned. Now the schedule was somewhat back too normal. It would be a lot better if Jimmy would return.

"Hi Teaspoon," Kid said as he went inside.

"Howdy lad, what can I do for you?" Teaspoon was sweeping out one of the cells. Jesse had been hired to do that chore, but since he was away, the responsibility fell back on Teaspoon.

"Do you know the new girl, Jennifer?"

"I don't know her personally. I haven't had the honor, but I do know she's been hired by Jacy to work at the PEG. Melissa told me." Teaspoon replied. "Well, speak of the devil."

"Huh?" Melissa inquired as she entered. "What devil? Where?"

"It's a metaphor. I was just speaking about you." Teaspoon answered

"What about me?"

"I was just telling Kid that Jacy hired Jennifer because you told me." Teaspoon went back to sweeping out the cell.

"Yeah, she's over at the PEG right now." Melissa went and grabbed the broom from Teaspoon saying, "I'll do that for you since Jesse's out of town."

"Why were you asking about her, Kid?" Teaspoon sat down on the top of his desk and waited for an answer.

"I was suppose to have supper with her a couple of weeks ago, and we were so busy at the station. I had to go on a run so I never made it. So I need to explain to her why I didn't show up."

"So you're the rider that stood her up. I've heard her ever so often mumbling about it, but I never did hear who it was." Melissa leaned against the broom. She hoped that Jennifer would forgive him. She liked Kid. He was sweet.

"Good luck Kid, I hope she forgives ya." Teaspoon stood up. "Just be honest with her. I'm sure after ya tell her the circumstances, she'll be forgiving."

"Well, I hope so. I better go get it over with." Kid turned around and walked out. He knocked on the door of the PEG, and Jennifer opened it.

"Oh, it's you. What can I do for you?" Jennifer said in a business like tone.

"I've come to apologize for not having supper with you a few weeks ago. We've been really busy at the station. I've been doubling on runs, and I know it's no excuse for not even getting word to you that I couldn't join ya, but I'm really sorry. And if you'll forgive me, I'd like to buy you that supper now."

Jennifer thought about his apology. She really liked Kid, and he sounded so sincere. "Well, I could use a break, and I still need information about the Pony Express. I am hungry. Jennifer stepped out and pulled the door behind her.

"Great!" Kid smiled. It had been the first time he had smiled since Blythe had left. Kid escorted Jennifer to the Silver Spoon.
