MAY 20, 1861

Kid sat in the loft of the barn. He understood why Blythe had left. But it didn't stop the hurt. He knew he had chores to do. But right now he couldn't face anyone. There was just too much pain. He felt like his heart was torn in two.

Buck could see Kid in the loft. Climbing the ladder Buck called out to him. "Hey Kid, you still upset about Blythe leaving?"

Looking up, Kid nodded his answer to Buck.

Walking over he sat next to Kid, Buck sighed, then said. "I know how you feel. I thought Caly and I were always going to be together."

Kid looked over at his friend. "What do you mean? You two are prefect for each other. What happened to cause this?"

Buck could feel the heat in his cheeks, and he looked down at the ground before Kid could see him blush, "Her father caught us in a comprising situation. He told me I couldn't see her for a while. When she came to talk to me later that day, she broke up with me."

"Caly loves you too much to break up with you. Are you sure that's what she did?"

Buck nodded, "I'm sure. She told me we shouldn't see each other till her father calms down."

"I guess your right. Sure sounds like she did. But I can't believe it. It hurts when they tear your heart out like that." He could understand why Buck was so down, since he was told he couldn't see Caly.

Buck nodded in agreement. "It sure does."

The two friends sat in silence trying to deal with their broken hearts.
