PRIMPING FEBRUARY 14, 1860 |
| Kathleen
had made her dress for the dance out of red velvet. It was fitted from the round neckline
to the waist and then bloomed out. It was like several dresses she had seen back home in
Louisiana. She had trimmed the neckline, the long sleeves and the hem with white lace. Kathleen had to go to the dressmaker's shop to get a petticoat for her dress. After she bought the petticoat, she noticed she was running low on cash, so she went to the bank. "Good afternoon, Mr. Brown." "Good afternoon, Miss Boudreaux. What can I do for you?" "May I please have $30 out of my account please?" "Sure." As he handed her the money he said, "Thank you and have nice afternoon." "Thank you, Mr. Brown, and you have a good afternoon, too." She had gotten her hair trimmed, then braided it in the upside down braid that she used on special occasions. Absalom showed up to get her an hour before the dance was supposed to start. Caller Bob had already been out to her place to get the Gumbo that she had made for the supper plates, so she didn't have to worry about it spilling on her newly made dress. "You look radiant tonight." Absalom smiled as he used one of the words that she had him use in place of pretty in one of his poems. "Thank you. You look dashing yourself." Kathleen said. They chatted on the way to Caller Bob's place. |
