AT THE VALENTINE'S DANCE!

FEBRUARY 14, 1860

After dancing to three songs in a row, Kathleen needed a break and asked for one. Just as they were leaving the dance floor, she saw Catherine and they talked a while. Kathleen could smell the alcohol on her friend's breath and was worried. She could tell that Catherine was drunk and hoped that she wouldn't do anything to embarrass herself.

After talking with Catherine, she saw Teaspoon and Dev leaving the dance floor for a break. Teaspoon approached her and Absalom and asked, "How is the sale going?"

"Great!"

"Good. Good. Jesse tells me that you don't have a barn for your horse yet."

"No, I don't."

"I think that the riders could build you one."

Kathleen's face lit up. "Thank you, Sheriff Hunter. I'll get the lumber this week."

"Ok, great! All we ask for repayment is that you teach some of the riders how to read and write."

"Ok. No problem." Kathleen replied. "Do you want to send them out to my place, or should I come out to the station for the lessons?"

"You could come out to the station?" Kathleen nodded. "That'd be great!"

Before Kathleen and Absalom went out to the dance floor, Cody came up and talked to them for a while. He seemed to be distracted and always looking around, probably searching for someone.

Kathleen and Absalom danced for the rest of the night. They were saddened when the dance ended because they were having such a good time and didn't want to leave.
