MAY 29, 1860
Prudence noticed that things were slow with her freight company over the last few weeks. Thinking that an ad might help but she wasn't sure what to put in it, she decided to go see Kathleen. She hoped Kathleen could help her get an ad together.
Riding out to the schoolhouse, Prudence hoped Kathleen was there. As she rode up she could hear Kathleen singing in the barn as she worked.
Dismounting Prudence tied her horse to the corral fence and walked into the barn saying, "Kathleen."
Kathleen looked up from the stall she was cleaning and said, "Down here, Prudence."
Prudence walked over to the stall where Kathleen was and said, "I was wondering if you could help me write up an ad for my freight company to put in the paper?"
Looking up Kathleen said, "Sure I would love to help you with that. I am just about done here."
Prudence nodded and waited for her to finish. After Kathleen brushed the straw and stuff from her skirt, the two women headed for the house.
After cleaning up Kathleen put some water on to boil for tea. Taking some paper and sitting next to Prudence, Kathleen thought about what to say in the ad.
Biting the end of her pencil she thought awhile until inspiration hit her. She smiled at Prudence and said, "Hows this? Need something shipped fast and with Care, use Jeldin Freight company."
Prudence thought it over and said, "Yes thats prefect. Thank you so much Kathleen."
"Youre welcome, Prudence. I'll write it out for you." Then she started to write it out on the paper for her to take to the PEG office.
They talked for a few minutes before Prudence said, "Well, I better get this to the PEG office."
Kathleen nodded and walked her outside to her horse. Prudence mounted up and waved as she rode back to town. Reaching town Prudence rode straight to the PEG office. Dismounting and tying her horse to the post she walked into the office.
She didn't see anyone, so she looked around until a few minutes later Melissa came out of the back room. Melissa looked up and said, "Hello Mrs. Jeldin. Jacy's not here at the moment. Can I help you?"
"Well, I think so. I have an ad for the paper." Prudence said.
"Sure, I can make sure she puts it in the paper for you." Melissa said in reply.
Prudence handed her the paper with the ad on it. She, in turn read the ad and nodded. "I'll make sure she gets it right away."
"Thank you Melissa, I need to be getting back. Tell Jacy hello for me."
Melissa walked her to the door and waited while Prudence mounted up and rode away.
