Justin headed over to the PEG. It was time to confront Jacy with the truth. He really didn’t look forward to it, but it had been knawing at him for months now, and the only way to shake it was to tell her. Just by luck Beauregard was coming out of the hotel when he saw Justin going into the newspaper office.

For the past few months he had done his best to keep Jacy and Justin apart. Now he picked up his stride and entered the PEG. "Howdy Miss Jacy, Mr. Calhoun," he said as he interrupted their conversation. Jacy’s radiant smile turned upside down at the sight of Beauregard. Justin noticed it and wondered why. "I hope I’m not intruding." Jacy wanted to say yes you are and tell him to leave, but she knew she couldn’t do that. Before either one of them could answer he continued, "Jacy I stopped in to ask you to lunch." He had his most charming devious smile plastered on his face.

What could she do? It looked like she was going to have to accept. Otherwise Justin might wonder why she didn’t like him, and also because Beauregard might get mad and blab her secret all over town. Swallowing her pride, she said, "I’d like that. Justin did you need something?"

"Well . . . ummm . . ." Rubbing his head. "It’s nothin’ that can’t wait."

"Alright." Jacy said as she started for the door. She held it open as the gentlemen passed through.

Justin went back to the livery. He just couldn’t figure out why whenever he was around Jacy, Beauregard always showed up. He shook his head to dismiss the thoughts he was having. He was beginning to be suspicious of everybody that had a connection with Jacy, and he couldn’t really rationalize his feelings. He glanced back just in time to see them entering the Silver Spoon.
