AUGUST 21, 1860
Joshua rode into town. He had finally decided that it was time to ask Drucilla to marry him. Riding into town he saw her walking back from the post office. Riding up to her he could see something was bothering her. Dismounting he said, "Sweety whats bothering you?"
Drucilla looked up at him. "My grandmother on my fathers side is very ill and is asking for me. I need to go to her." She paused for a minute because she couldnt decide if she wanted to go to be with Silvia Dupont or stay here. She hated the thought of leaving Joshua. "But I don't want to leave you."
Joshua took her in his arms trying to confront her. "I know a way you don't have to leave me."
Drucilla pulled back to look at him sniffling. "How?"
Smiling Joshua got down on one knee, "Drucilla would you marry me?"
Covering her mouth she nodded, "Yes, oh yes. I will marry you."
Joshua picked her up and spun her around, "We can leave as soon as you want and get married on the way."
Drucilla nodded, "Just let me give ask Rachel if she will run the mill until we get back."
"Alright. I'll get my things and meet you at the mill." Joshua watched as Drucilla mounted up and then he turned her horse around and smacked it on the rump to get him moving.
"Ill pack up my things and be ready as soon as I can. "Drucilla shouted at him as she headed home.
Joshua rode back to the station. He was thankful no one was around. He gathered his things and quickly wrote a note to the others explaining everything. Then he headed over to the mill.
Drucilla was waiting for him. She smiled handing him her bag.
After tying it onto the back of his horse with his pack, he helped her mount up behind him. He made sure that she was on good and had a tight hold on him before heading off into the sunset. He hoped to return to this friendly little town and their friends one-day.
