APRIL 23, 1860
Jimmy and Lee rode to the picnic, and Lynn followed in the buckboard.
As they arrived at the picnic, Lee said to Jimmy, "After the horse race we'll be able to spend the rest of the day together."
Jimmy looked confused, but he knew enough not to ask when Lee was planing something.
As the three walked around talking with everyone, Lou noticed that Jimmy was looking a little distracted. She walked over and tried to get him to tell her what was bothering him. But Jimmy wasn't about to say anything.
Jimmy and Lee entered the horse race. The race was a close one. Jimmy, Cody and Lee, were all in the lead at one time or another. But at the last minute Jimmy rode Sundancer to victory. Patting Sundancer on the neck he smiled as Lee said, "Good race, Jimmy."
After the race Lee and Lynn disappeared, and they switched places. When they returned you couldn't tell any difference about them unless you knew them very well.
The three entered all the other races and games. Jimmy and Lee, posing as Lynn, paired up for the three-legged race. Lynn was enjoying herself and was glad to see her sister happy and in love. Lynn knew that Jimmy was a good man, and that he cared for Lee a great deal.
They all had decided to go to the party together, and the girls would switch back after the party.
