JULY 18, 1861

Jimmy sat staring out the window. He could hear the others grumbling about having to pull all this extra work. But he couldn't bring himself to leave Lee's side. He knew their friends didn't really mean it. Lee was their friend, too, and they were just as worried about her as he was. It just wasn’t fair that they had to do his work plus Cody's.

He turned back to Lee. Meg had said she was getting better. He couldn't help but want her to wake up. He turned back to the window. He saw Kid return and lead Katie into the barn. With a curt nod Jimmy made a silent promise to make it up to his friends.

Jimmy was brought from his thoughts when he heard his name being called faintly. "Jimmy," Lee called quietly.

Jimmy looked over at the bed afraid that he had imagined it, but he hadn’t. Lee had her eyes open. He rushed by her side. “LeAnn…”

Lee sighed. “I had the strangest dream.”

“Shhh   . . . don’t talk. Save your strength.”

Lee started to worry a little bit. “Jimmy, what happened?”

“You’ve just been real sick. You’ve been asleep for the past two days.”

The realization dawned on Lee. “It wasn’t a dream was it, Jimmy. I lost the baby didn’t I?” She looked at him.

He knew he couldn’t lie to her. He looked past her at the small coffin that Ian had made for his daughter, and then he nodded his head as tears started to fill his eyes. Not only for his loss but for the pain the truth was going to cause the love of his life.

Lee let her gaze follow to where Jimmy was looking and she knew then what her dream had meant.

“We’ve been waiting on you to get better to bury her.”

“I want the name Angel on the marker.” She said as she remembered rocking a baby girl in her dream. She also remembered the angel that called himself Tommy telling her that the baby was going to be an angel.

There was a knock on the door and Lee said, “Come in.”

Caly entered and saw that Lee was awake and went over and hugged her best friend. All three of the friends mourned together for the loss of the baby that would be called Angel from now on.

Meg had given the ok for Lee to go to Angel’s funeral and to be outside some of the day as soon as she woke up. It was a somber affair. All of the riders that could were there in support of their brother and sister. Caly, Steven, Luke, Meg, Serena, Daniel, Charlie and Grace were the ones there that didn’t work for the Express.
