JANUARY 22, 1860
Jimmy wandered through the Town after he delivered the mail to the post office with Blythe, as he passed by the saloon he decided to drink something.
He stood at the bar and ordered sasparilla from the bartender Richard when suddenly three drunken men started to yell at the girls who were working. Kimberly Marmont came out of her office when she heard the loud noises.
When she finally entered the barroom scene she was surprised by what she saw. Richard had jumped on a man's back while Jimmy was rolling on the ground with another man. A third man with his back to Kimberly was near Jimmy's side with a chair in his hands.
Kimberly took a bottle and broke it on the mans head, making him fall to the floor and passing out.
Jimmy saw what Kimberly did and smiled at her from the floor where he was still fighting with the guy.
A few minutes later Jimmy and Richard finally were able to kick the men out of the saloon. They walked back inside laughing.
"Are you girls ok? " Jimmy asked standing by the bar. They nodded smiling.
"So does anyone want to explain what happened here, " Kimberly inquired as she looked at the broken bottles and chairs.
"They were annoying the girls, Miss Marmont," Richard answered quickly.
"Oh, I see. Richard, please, can you clean this mess up." She asked as she stared at Jimmy.
"Sure, Miss Marmont," and with that Richard thanked Jimmy and went to get a broom.
"I'm sorry for all this Miss Marmont. I'm Jimmy Hickok from the Pony Express." Jimmy said walking towards Kimberly.
"It's ok, Mr. Hickok"
"Jimmy, call me Jimmy!"
"Ok Jimmy, I think I should thank you for your help, " Kimberly replied smiling at the rider. "My brother should be here, but he never is when we need him," she completed.
"It was nothing, Kimberly," Jimmy affirmed calling her by her first name. Kimberly didnt seem to mind.
"Let me pay you with a drink then."
"Sure"
Jimmy and Kimberly went to the bar where Richard was starting to clean the balcony.
"What do you want, Jimmy?" Kimberly asked when Richard approached.
"Sasparilla" Jimmy replied a little embarrassed.
"Company rules?" Kimberly asked. Jimmy nodded agreeing.
"So make it three Richard. As Richard looked surprised she said, "You deserve a drink, too."
Richard brought the drinks, and when they took the glasses Kimberly said, "Who said we can't make new friends at a saloon."
Jimmy and Richard laughed and began to drink. Richard went to finish the cleaning while Kimberly and Jimmy stood talking and trying to get to know a little bit more about each other.
