ARRIVING HOME

FEBRUARY 14, 1860

Jesse didn't have a buckboard ready to take Rose home, so she walked with him to the stables so he could hitch one up and take her home. Caller Bob had offered Jesse the use of one of his buckboards after Melissa asked him.

"I am so sorry, Rose, that I didn't have a buckboard ready to take you home."

"Oh thats ok. You didn't even know you were going to take me home."

After that it was quiet again. Rose watched as Jesse hitched the horse to the buckboard. And then he came around to the side where she was standing. He took her hand into his and helped her up. She sat down, and was thinking how romantic that moment was. Jesse then got on and started down the road to Roses ranch.

"Jesse, how come you are always quiet when you are around me?"

She couldn't believe she just asked that. It just slipped. Jesse stopped the horse and turned to face Rose. "I don't know. I just get all choked up inside because you are so beautiful to me, and Im afraid I would say something wrong and you wouldn't like me. And you wouldn't talk to me either when I was around you, so I figured you didn't like me."

"Jesse thats not true. I do like you, and you shouldn't get choked up when you are around me. It is true I get shy when I am around you, and now that you know that I like you I will not be as shy."

"I like you a lot Rose and I hope we can talk more and become better friends now that we have told each other how we feel."

"Me too, Jesse."

They started down the road again and soon they were in front of Roses house. Jesse got down and went around to help Rose down. He walked her to the front door. "Rose I don't know if anyone told you this tonight or at any other time, which Im sure they have but you look very beautiful." He then handed her the bracelet and gloves that he had purchased. Rose loved them and kissed Jesse on the cheek.

"Thank you so much, Jesse. That was very sweet. You look very handsome as well."

Jesse and Rose stood there watching each other blushing as Jesse leaned down and kissed Rose on the cheek.

"Good night, Rose."

"Good night, Jesse, and thanks for taking me home."

"Youre welcome. I will see you later."

"Be careful going back to the station."

"I will."

Rose watched Jesse until she couldn't see him anymore and then she went inside the house. She didn't want to wake her parents so she took her shoes off and went up the stairs into her room. She couldn't believe how the night ended. She just hoped it would all work out, with that last thought she went to bed for the night.
