INTRODUCING JESSE!

Jesse was lazily lying on the bank of old Cricket Creek, so named by Cody because lots of times there you could hear cricket calls. He had his fishing pole squeezed in his left hand just in case he got a nibble. He was thinking about the pony express riders.

He admired Jimmy because he was very fast with his six-shooters. One day Jesse was determine to be as fast if not faster than Jimmy, no he would without a doubt be faster . . . someday. Unfortunately it was hard for him to practice his quick draw without a gun. Teaspoon had forbid him to purchase one. As long as he was working for Teaspoon he had to abide by Teaspoon’s rules. And also by Teaspoon’s request none of the riders were to teach or loan him a gun.

Sometimes he would think about sneaking and getting one of the pony express rider’s guns, but he was somewhat afraid of getting caught. He didn’t know what they would do to him if they caught him. He would wait, watch and learn. And just maybe if he proved himself worthy they would eventually teach him to shoot. Jesse lacked patience and if one of them didn’t teach him soon, then he might just have to borrow a gun and learn on his own.

Jesse didn’t mind doing the chores around the station, but he would rather be delivering the mail. He was saving up his money to buy a very fast horse. He was looking forward to joining the Pony Express cause he really hated going to school. Book learning’! Haw! It was a bunch of nonsense. No books could teach him to ride and shoot, but yet again it was another one of Teaspoon’s rules that if he was going to work for him he had to attend school.

At school some of the kids made fun of him because he would be daydreaming about delivering the mail when the teacher would call on him for an answer. And of course Jesse wouldn’t know what the question was so he would be corny and just make up an off the wall answer. So the teacher would make him stand in the corner.

Suddenly the pole jerked in his hand. Jesse stopped thinking about the way he wished it was and started pulling on his fishing pole. It didn’t take him long to land the big trout. By the time Jesse headed back to the station he had caught four big fish. They would feast tonight. Rachel would season them and cook them to perfection. On the way home it made Jesse’s mouth water just thinking about it.
