JUNE 27, 1860
Jesse came wandering into the general store. He saw Cody talking with Jacy. He walked up to them and said hello. Jacy turned and smiled and said hello back.
"What are you doin' here, Jesse?" Cody asked.
"Rachel wanted to know how much longer you and Simon were going to be working each other's jobs?" Jesse replied.
"Aw, don't tell me that Rachel misses me." Cody grinned.
"No, actually she was wondering how much food to get for the next few weeks. Simon doesn't eat as much as you." Jesse smirked.
Jacy tried to hold back her laugh, but both Jesse and Cody noticed. "Very funny, Jesse." Cody returned his attention back to Jacy. "Would you like to have supper with me? Javier can look after the shop for a while."
Jacy nodded and then turned to Jesse, "Have you ate yet?"
"No, I haven't." Jesse was hoping for an invite that way he could stay in town longer and maybe see Rose.
"Would you like to eat with us?" Jacy asked.
Jesse looked at Cody and then back to Jacy. He knew that Cody would rather eat alone with Jacy, but he wanted to stay in town longer. "I would like that." He directed his gaze to Jacy when he said it.
Jacy smiled at Jesse and said, "Let's go."
They walked over to the Silver Spoon. Cody wasn't as happy as he would have been if it were only the two of them. Charity led them to a table, and they ordered. Cody gave Jacy much of his attention, but Jacy did her best to keep Jesse in the conversation.
Jesse told Jacy that Simon was a very good Pony Express rider and that he didn't eat as much as Cody. Everyone seemed to be getting along fine with the new rider. Jacy was glad. That way maybe Cody would stay working at the store longer. She liked him being close. She could go over to the store and rant and rave about her saloon problems to Cody whenever she felt like it. It helped some to just get it off her chest, and Cody was very sympathetic. She appreciated that Cody was concerned about her feelings. It showed that he really cared about her.
After supper Jesse bid the two of them goodbye and went over to the boutique shop. He found Rose there. She was finishing up some last minute cleaning. She asked her mom if she could go riding with Jesse since she was done with her work, and her mom said she could.
Jesse and Rose walked out of the boutique. After mounting their horses, they started heading out of town. Jesse watched Cody escort Jacy to her door and then head back over to the store. He thought the two made a nice couple. He just couldn't understand why Melissa didn't want them to be a couple, and why she preferred Jimmy for Jacy. He thought she shouldn't try to be matchmaking Jacy, and that Jacy should do her own matchmaking, but Melissa was very stubborn and wouldn't listen to him.
He was glad that him and Rose were together. He liked her very much. Melissa had brought them together, and that was good, but he wasn't so sure that Melissa was doing the right thing trying to get Jimmy and Jacy together. He would just have to watch and wait. Maybe Melissa knew something more about relationships then he did. Although he couldn't figure out what it could be. She did know Jacy better than him, but he could tell Jacy was very interested in Cody and not Jimmy. He tossed off the thoughts and brought his attention back to Rose.
