JULY 11, 1860

Javier was lying on his bed thinking about the last time he had spent with Lilly. It was on his birthday, June 18. They had a scrumptious spread of food for their picnic that Lilly had made. After Javier finished his last morsel of lunch, he laid back with his hands behind his head and watched Lilly.

Lilly giggled. She wasn't used to someone just staring at her with a big loopy grin on his face. "Why are you staring at me?"

"Because you're beautiful." Javier said. Lilly blushed. "That lunch was delicious. This is the best birthday I ever had."

"I'm glad." Lilly shyly said. She wasn't used to compliments either.

Javier watched as Lilly fingered the white lily stickpin that he had gave her for Valentine's Day. Every time he saw her she was wearing it. That made him feel good.

Jogged out of his memories Javier heard a knock at his door. "Javier," Cody said as he poked his head around the door. "I hate to disturb ya, but there's a lady friend of yours downstairs who wants to see ya."

Javier sat up and asked, "Who?"

"It's Lilly," Cody sheepishly grinned. Cody's a romantic at heart, and glad that Javier has a girlfriend.

Happy Javier followed Cody downstairs. As he entered, he saw Lilly fingering her stickpin. Lilly loved her pin. Ever since Javier had given it to her, she wore it everywhere.

He greeted Lilly, and they stood around talking for a little while. She asked him if he had supper yet, and he shook his head. She offered to fix him supper, but he declined, and gave her a counteroffer by asking her to have supper with him at the Silver Spoon.

So Javier and Lilly would continue their conversation over supper, and as they left they waved goodbye to Cody. Cody watched as they left the store, and he thought about closing the store a little early and walking over to the saloon and asking Jacy to supper. He was going to do just that when a couple of ladies entered the store. He had waited to long to turn the sign around, so now he was stuck.
