JUNE 25, 1860
Jacy followed Caller Bob over to the saloon. As they entered they saw Kimberly talking with Richard. All four of them greeted each other, and Caller Bob handed Kimberly her card. Jacy told her that they both could decline swapping jobs.
At that moment Tyson came downstairs with Jimmy following him. "Aw, what you got there." Tyson grabbed the card out of Kimberlys hands. After reading it, Tyson had the hardest time to stop laughing.
"Oh stop it!" Kimberly said as she snatched her card back from her brother.
"I cant help it. You a newspaper owner, thats the best laugh Ive had all day." Tyson stated between giggles.
"Its not funny. I could do it." Kimberly hated it when her brother laughed at her and when he thought that she couldnt do something.
"I cant picture you writing articles or publishing papers." Tyson smiled at his sister.
"I can do anything I put my mind to." Kimberly haughtily said.
"Oh really," Tysons face looked very doubtful. "I bet Ill be a better rider than you would be a newspaper owner."
Not one to back down from anyone, especially her brother, she agreed to be the newspaper owner, and bet her brother that she would do better at her new job than he would his. They bet a free day off from work and a free dinner.
Jacys spirits dashed. How could she be a saloon owner? She despised them, not saloon owners but saloons. She thought the world would be a better place without them.
"Are you taking Kims place?" Tyson asked.
Jacy nodded her head, "I guess so." She said none too happy.
"Darn, I wish I didnt have to go." Tyson replied, but before he changed his mind to leave, he picked up his bag and hurried out of the saloon.
After Caller Bob escorted Jacy back home because she had to pick up some things and tell Melissa what was going on, he handed Melissa a card. Not waiting around to see her reaction, he left. He had one gift card left to deliver, and soon after leaving town he pulled up at the schoolhouse.
