JULY 20, 1860
Ivy was having a hard time working at the bank. Not that she wasn't any good at counting money, because she was. She counted money all the time from her pay and tips at the saloon. But she was very restless sitting at the teller window all day. Most times she would be so bored that she would stick her head in the office and ask Desiree what she was doing. Desiree wouldn't be doing much just looking at papers and trying to understand them. Sometime during the day Mr. Simmons would come over and give her a hand.
Sometimes even Ted came over to check on Ivy, but most of the time he spent his time at the saloon, even though it was slow. Ivy had taken a few breaks and looked in the saloon, and she always noticed that Ted was never too far from Jacy. She thought that he might have a crush on the young lady, and she kind of felt sorry for him because she knew that Jacy and Cody were a couple.
Two weeks ago Caller Bob had gave Ivy and Desiree gift cards, so they had to trade places with Ted and Mr. Simmons. She would never forget that first night of the special show in the saloon.

Ivy was running across the street when she heard someone call her name. She stopped in her tracks and looked to her left and a big grin spread across her face as she saw Noah walking towards her. "Good evening, Ivy. And where are ya heading in such a hurry?" Noah scanned her from top to bottom. He had never seen Ivy in a mans shirt and pants before.
"Im going to the saloon to change." Ivy answered.
"Why are you wearing those clothes?" Noah inquired.
"Because I just came from there." Ivy replied as she pivoted around to point back the way she had come.
"The bank?" Noah rubbed his chin. "How come you were there?"
"Desiree and I changed jobs." She said as she watched Desiree locking up the bank and descending the steps.
"Oh! So does that mean?" Noah glanced over at the saloon.
"Yep, theres a special show tonight. Im going over to switch clothes, grab a bite to eat, and then Im going to see the show." Ivy said hoping that Noah would want to join her.
"Ted and Walter saloon girls, thats sure to be a good show. Would you like to have supper with me and then attend the show?" Noah asked.
Ivy nodded. "Ill see ya at the restaurant as soon as I change." Noah nodded, and Ivy smiled at him before she took off.
As Ivy entered the saloon she asked, "Hows it going, Jacy?"
As she watched Ivy ascending the stairs, Jacy replied, "Everythings fine!"
Climbing the stairs Ivy thought thats the first time Ive seen Jacy smile since shes been here. She must think theres going to be a crowd tonight. Thats good. I hope its true. Ivy hurried and changed clothes. Before leaving the saloon she smiled at Jacy, and Jacy smiled back at her. She walked over to the Silver Spoon, and Noah greeted her. They sat down, ordered and Noah told Ivy that he wouldnt be able to attend the show with her. That depressed Ivy for she had been looking forward to Noah being with her. But he couldnt because Charity had already made plans to see the show, and Noah couldnt leave Clover by herself to work the restaurant.
Noah would have liked to have escorted Ivy to the saloon, and even though Ivy tried to coax him into closing the restaurant for about an hour, Noah didnt think it was a good idea. Noah walked Ivy out onto the boardwalk, and asked her if she would like to go for a walk later tonight. She readily agreed as she saw her sister Clover watching them out of the window.
Inside the restaurant Clover was about to have a fit. She hated that Noah and Ivy were still a couple and wanted them broke up more than ever. As she was about to smash the plate to the floor in her frustration, Tally quickly grabbed it out of her hands. "Aw! Aw! Aw! I like my food on the plate not on the floor." He took his supper and sat it down at his table all the while grinning at Clover. CJ just happened to walk in and saw what almost happened, so he steered Clover into the kitchen until she cooled off.
Meanwhile Ivy went over to find her a seat in the saloon. People were already gathering for the show. Word had spread like wildfire, and once people knew that Walter and Ted were the main attraction, and that also theres suppose to be a surprise attraction they had decided that they wanted to see the show.
Luke and Meghan along with Daniel, Serena, Corey, Buck and Caly were seated at one table. At another table sat Dev, Teaspoon, Rachel, Lou, Lee, Ike and Karen. Ivy didnt know where to sit, maybe she should stand at the bar, but then she saw Jacy motioning for her, so she joined Jacy, Richard, Desiree and Jimmy at their table.
Ivy watched as more people entered the saloon. Drucilla and Joshua came walking in, and after Joshua ordered them some drinks, they sat down together. Gavin and Jasmine entered and went over and spoke with Drucilla and Joshua, and finally joined them at their table. The small group from the hotel, Cathleen, Wild Bird, and CJ, sat down at a table together.
Kathleen, Samantha, Justin, Kid and Blythe were the next ones to arrive. They all sat at a table together. Caller Bob and Steven were standing at the bar. Steven not prone to wearing his gun except while out on the range, had his gun belt on tonight. Caller Bob had asked Steven to wear it just in case he needed help in keeping the peace. Caller Bob knew Sheriff Teaspoon would be there, too, but sometimes once a riot started it was hard for just one man to get it under control. So Caller Bob wanted to be prepared just in case.
That night the saloon was full of ladies, and even some gentleman forego the bordello to be at the saloon to watch the show.
Ivy watched as Mr. Simmons was the first one to come out on stage dressed as a lady. She had to suppress a giggle and try to stay straight-faced as best she could.
Walter had been practicing all day with some help from Jacy. He couldnt believe that the green-eyed gal had actually persuaded him into doing this. This just wasnt like him at all.
Walter came walking out on the stage with a pink and green frilly dress on. Some of the fellas couldnt help but break a grin at the unusual sight. He started singing in a low pitch voice trying to sound as much like a lady as possible. Then he would strut around the stage and swoosh his skirt. After his first song was over and he had most of the folks laughing and joking about his attire, he started growing subconscious about his get-up. He was beginning to think he had a made a mistake about agreeing to do this little stunt.
Jacy wasnt about to let this show turn into a circus, so she started clapping. She wished she could whistle but unfortunately God hadnt gave her that talent. But Desiree started whistling and hollerin, "Great job, more, more!"
"Yes, more. Please!" Jacy shouted. And some of the other ladies wanted an encore as well. At this time Ted came sashaying onto the stage. He too had been practicing all day, but he was more nervous than Mr. Simmons. He just knew that he wouldnt perform very well and everybody would boo and hiss at him.
Ted started the song, Bucks my man, but he was very fidgety and moving back and forth on the stage with no rhythm or reason. His voice was very low and the fellas in the back were calling him old granny because they couldnt hear what he was sayin. Walter knew that any minute Ted might run off the stage, so he moved up beside Ted and started singing along with him. After a few minutes Ted started to relax more. His voice improved and he started acting better. After the song was over, Caly hollered and shouted more than anyone, and why not they had just sung her song that she had entered in the Codys Song Writing Contest.
Walter and Ted came walking down off the stage, and Jacy said, "Great job, guys." Jacy climbed the stairs to the stage. She hushed the crowd and said, "Now ladies and gentleman please dont run off yet. Theres more to come. Our new ladies Walmons and Teown will be serving drinks before their next performance. As soon as Jacy stepped off the stage the chatter resumed. People started ordering drinks right and left, just so that they could see Walter and Ted up close. Some people couldnt believe that they had donned womens attire. Some soon realized that it was due to the pretty new saloon manager, Jacy, as they watched her work her magic with Walter, Ted and the customers.
Since the saloon was so crowded Jacy helped serve drinks. She wanted everybody to get their liquor as soon as possible that way the next show could begin before the crowd started loosing interest. Taking stock of the room she realized that they all finally had something to quench their thirsts, so she signal Walter and Ted. Walter finished his chat with Steve and Caller Bob, and then nodded to Ted. Ted followed Walter out of the room and into the back of the saloon. Jacy took her seat and the next show began.
Ivy watched as Cody came on the stage. Most of the crowd wasnt aware of his presence yet. Cody starred out at the room full of people, and then he eyes rested on Jacys face. He gave her his big loopy grin and then started singing. "Somebodys gonna twirl someone before the night is through, Somebodys gonna promenade, theres nothin we can do."
Silence had fallen, and Jacy glanced around to see everybody listening intently on Cody. She also noticed two pairs of eyes in the saloon window. Her little sister had wanted to come to the performance tonight, but Jacy had thought it wouldnt be appropriate for such a young girl to be in the saloon, so she had forbidden it. She could have went and shooed Melissa and Michael away, but Jacy didnt see any real harm in them watching from the window. Turning her attention back to the show, Jacy smiled up at Cody. He was doing a great job.
As Cody sang, "Caller Bob is gonna play our son," he pointed at Caller Bob, and Jacy turned to see Caller Bob smiling. Cody walked down off the stage still singing, and when he arrived at the part where everybody wants to hug somebody, he gave Jacy a hug. As he continued to sing, he grabbed Jacys hand and pulled her on the stage with him. She tried not to go with him, but he was too strong for her.
Cody grabbed her by the left arm as they did the allemande,
"Youll allemande left your corner"and then they do sa do,
"And do sa do your partner"and then he swung and twirled her.
"We can do the movements wrong or right But either way theres gonna be aSquare dance tonight, a square dance tonight
I know"
As Cody finished the song he promenaded Jacy around the stage.
"Oh, I know
Therell be a square dance tonight
A square dance tonight, I know."
With her face as red as an apples, Jacy shook her head at Cody, and still blushing she took her seat. The crowd applauded.
Though Ivy liked the whole show, her favorite part was the last song. Cody started singing She thinks my Stallions Sexy, and Ted came out and played the part of the girl. Ted was flirting with Cody and Cody was being very charming. It was totally funny, and this time she couldnt help but laugh.
That night had been a great night. The show had been a success, and everybody there had a great time. And after the show Ivy had went for a walk with Noah. It had been very romantic even though she thought at times that someone had been watching her.
**********
Ivy was snapped out of her daydreams by Desiree knocking on the counter. Shaking her head she asks, "Im sorry, did you need something?"
"Just to lock up. Its time to go." Desiree grinned at Ivy. Ivy looked at her watch. Desiree was right. It was time to leave. She stood up, smiled at Desiree and followed her out the door. Desiree turned back around and locked the door. She then followed Ivy across the street to the saloon. They both wanted to see how Mr. Simmons and Teds day had been.
