JUNE 26, 1860

Ike had been seeing Karen for a while now. He really liked her. She had him over for supper several times, and they had been out riding together a few times. They had went to the Easter picnic together, and they both had enjoyed it. Now he was driving over to Mustang Ranch to ask Karen if she would have supper with him at the Silver Spoon.

As Ike rode up to the house he saw Samantha breaking a gray horse. Samantha hit the ground for the tenth time, and she was wondering where the heck Karen picked up this bronc. She was having a hard time breaking him. She had been trying on and off all day.

Karen was just coming out of the barn when she saw Ike pull up in front of her house. This was the first time she had seen Ike in a buggy. She wondered what he was up to. Oh well, there was only one way to find out, so she walked over, and Ike met her halfway between the house and the barn.

They both signed hello, and then Ike asked her if she would like to have supper with him in town at the Silver Spoon. She agreed.

"Samantha, were going to supper in town. You can quit for today." Samantha said as she walked over to the corral. Samantha nodded. As she led the horse over to the gate and into the barn she secretly thought Im glad I get to call it a day so early.

Ike helped Karen into the buggy. Riding along seated beside Karen, Ike was a little nervous. This was the first time he had invited her to supper. They were both silent all the way to town. Both lost in their own thoughts. And as Ike helped Karen down from the buggy, he felt as though all the town folks were eyeing them. He scanned the town as he followed Karen up the steps.

After entering Silver Spoon and being seated by Charity, they ordered their meal and had a wonderful supper together.

After leaving Karens home, Ike rode home to the Pony Express station thinking what a wonderful time he had. It was his birthday, but he hadnt told Karen that. He had a splendid birthday just being with her.
