Grace made her way outside. She knew others tried
to stop her and ask her what was wrong but she was not comfortable crying in front of
others. She didn't know why she was so upset, yeah Cody was a nice guy and all but before
he asked her to the dance she secretly had hoped Ike would ask her. Ike had been her
friend since day one. He had gone out of his way a few times to talk with her and he
seemed happy to know that Grace knew how to sign. How could Teaspoon of done this? Was she
really all that needy? Maybe she was, maybe she couldn't get a date on her own. She leaned
on a tree outside, wiped her eyes and brushed her long golden hair out of her face. She
didn't even hear when someone approached her.
Ike walked up to Grace and put his hand on her shoulder. He smiled to her as she jumped
then looked to him. He signed are you alright?
Grace nodded then signed "I'll be fine, Ike." She forced herself to smile.
"I like your costume, a tree how cute."
Ike smiled and handed her a handkerchief. You look very beautiful Grace. He
signed An Angel, suits you. He grinned then took her hand and led her over to a
bench. He signed tell me what happened, please.
Grace sat next to him and explained all that had taken place.
Ike tried to explain to her that Teaspoon had meant well. He wanted to tell her that he
was going to ask her to the dance but hesitated instead he smiled to her and signed let's
not let this ruin what could be a very fun evening. He stood up and took her hand would
you do me the honor of the next dance?
Grace smiled and let Ike lead her back inside and out on the dance floor.
