MAY 31, 1860
The town was quiet that night and all the hotels staff plus CJ were sitting on the hotel's porch having a nice conversation. Laura commented about the letter she had received from her son, and she also mentioned his marriage and unborn baby. Catherine was really glad to see Laura that happy. Laura was like a mother to her, the mother she never had. CJ, Bird and Eddie were also very excited about Laura's happiness.
"Laura," Catherine said, "I'm really happy for you. You have wonderful news from your son, and you also wrote that article about the hotel."
"Oh, thanks Miss Paige," Laura replied embarrassed, "It was just a little thing."
"I must say Mrs. Brooks," CJ affirmed, "You have talent for writing. I'm glad Jacy published your article. You should be a writer."
"Indeed," Eddie stated, "I agree with Mr. Hudson. It was a great article, and it was your first."
"Oh please," Laura said, "You are embarrassing me."
"You embarrassed?" Bird asked, "That's a surprise."
"Bird!" Catherine exclaimed.
"It's true," Bird said, "You should hear what she says when we are alone in the kitchen."
"BIRD!" Laura exclaimed, "I make jokes."
"I'm sure he appreciates the fun, Mrs. Brooks," CJ affirmed.
"Ok, I love it," Bird confessed, "And I agree with CJ. Laura, you should be a writer. You could help Eddie write his book."
"Yes," Eddie replied quickly, "I would love your help, Laura."
Laura smiled. She loved those people, and it was tough for her to think that she could have to leave them someday, after all, she had finally found her son and his family and she wanted to be with them.
"I think you could write a recipes book, Laura," Catherine commented, "You are a great cook."
"Yeah," Bird and CJ exclaimed at the same time. Catherine, Eddie and Laura laughed.
"What?" Bird asked as he watched Catherine looking at him," I like her food."
Catherine smiled, " I think the whole town knows that Bird."
CJ, Laura and Eddie smiled. The friends stood there talking for a little while longer, enjoying the peaceful evening.
