JANUARY 27, 1860

Teaspoon wanted to take some flowers with him when he asked Dev to the dance, but it being winter there was none to be found. So she would have to settle for him and his invitation. Teaspoon had decided that Melissa was right. It would be best if he asked her to go with him.

Teaspoon saw Dev and her freight wagon pull up outside of Cromwells Mercantile. He stood up, grabbed his winter coat and left his office.

Dev dropped down from her wagon, and she saw Teaspoon coming her way. She brushed down her coat and hoped she looked alright.

"Good morning, Miss Deveraux, are you having a good day?" Teaspoon said as he walked up to her.

"A good but cold day." Dev replied as she pulled her coat tighter around her neck.

"Yeah, its colder than a pond frozen over." Teaspoon said.

"Well, I was going into the store."

"Uh . . . um . . . Miss Deveraux, I was wondering if you would like to accompany me to the dance?" Teaspoon smiled broadly.

Wow she couldnt believe it Teaspoon had asked her to the dance. "Uh . . Id love to go with you." She blurted and then blushed.

"Ill pick you up at . . . hmmm . . . where would I pick you up at?" Teaspoon was stumped on that one because Dev didnt live nearby.

"Ill come to the jailhouse say around 5, ok?" Dev answered.

"That would be just fine." Teaspoon replied.

"Well, I should get going." Dev climbed aboard her wagon and swatted the horses to get them on the move.

"Goodbye, Miss Deveraux." Teaspoon went back to his office and as he took off his coat and sat down he started chuckling because Dev forgot to go into the store for whatever she was after. He chuckled a few more minutes and then relaxed to take a little nap. This was the best job he ever had. Most days there wasnt much for him to do. He just went around checking on the residents and making small talk for the most part. However, sometimes he did have to settle little disputes with residents and/or drifters passing through Dreamville.
