JULY 21, 1860

As Destiny took her packages from Cody and bid him good day, she headed down the street to the boardinghouse. She saw Serena coming towards her. She knew Serena had been lonely since Meghan had got married and moved out, so she decided to invite her and Daniel to join her and Jemima for supper at the hotel restaurant.

She waved to Serena and headed towards her. Serena smiled waving back. She had spent time at the boardinghouse with Destiny since Meg had got married. She thought how lucky Destiny was to still have her little girl at home. Even thought Meg was more like a sister to her then a daughter, she just hoped that she would be as close to this child as she was with Meg.

As Destiny walked up she said, "Hello Serena. How are you doing today?"

"Hello Destiny. I'm good. How are you this fine day?" Serena asked.

"I'm okay."

Just then there was Caller Bob walking towards them. They exchanged looks of confusion. They smiled as Caller Bob approached them.

"Hello ladies. May I speak with you a minute?" Caller Bob asked.

They both nodded.

"Well, I have a card for each of you ladies. Someone thought you would enjoy switching jobs for a while." Caller Bob said as he handed each of them a gift card.

Taking their cards they read them and then smiled at each other.

"Thank you major. I think we will help out. This should be fun." Destiny replied.

Serena nodded in agreement. Caller Bob smiled and bid them a good day. Then he headed off to deliver more cards.

Both women looked at each other and smiled. They were looking forward to this.

Looking up Serena saw Daniel waving at her from across the street, and she nodded to him. "Well. looks like I better head home and let Daniel know he'll have your company for awhile."

Destiny nodded and bid her friend good-bye. She watched Serena cross the street and hug Daniel. She hoped someday that she would find someone to love her the way he loved Serena.

Destiny looked up at hearing Jemima call to her. She smiled at her daughter as she came running up the street to her.

Destiny gathered her into her arms, hugging her and kissing her cheek.

While standing there listening to Jemima tell her about her day, Destiny thought about how lucky she was to have this praise little girl in her life.

As they walked up the street Jemima said, "Its great having Melissa as a teacher. Everyones so quiet and dont complain when she says what our assignments are. Miss Boudreaux was great. Oh momma, if you had seen them you wouldn't have believed it."

Jemima stop talking when she saw Beauregard walking towards them.

Destiny turned to see what her daughter was staring at. Handing the packages to her, she said, "Take these inside for me and stay there please, Sweety."

Jemima knew by the tone in her mothers voice that she better do it, so she took the packages inside. Standing at the window she could see her mother and Mr. Forthergill. talking. She couldn't hear what they were saying but she knew her mother wasn't happy with him showing up.

"Alright we'll join you for supper, but you are not to say anything about what happen that night. I don't want my daughter knowing yet. Got me?" Destiny finally said because he wouldn't take no for an answer.

Beauregard nodded in agreement. He wanted to make amends for what he had done to her and get to know his daughter. "Okay, I'll meet you at the restaurant at seven then?"

Destiny nodded, "Well, I better see to my boarders and daughter. We'll be there at seven waiting for you." Then she turned and went inside leaving Beauregard standing there on the porch. He smiled because Destiny hadnt pushed him away again, and she had agreed for her and Jemima to join him for supper.

Destiny was angry at seeing Jemima at the window. "Jemima, what have I told you about listening to other people conversations?"

"Sorry momma. I didnt' mean to. Who was that?"

"It was just an old friend. Hes invited us to join him for supper at the restaurant. Now go and do your chores."

Jemima nodded and smiled as she ran off to do her chores. She couldn't believe she was going to have supper at the restaurant.

Stepping out on the porch Destiny called Jemima to come in and change. Running by her mother, Jemima ran up to her room to change. Destiny smiled as she watched her daughter. She sat in one of the chairs and waited for Jemima to come out. Jemima walked out and handed Destiny her shawl. "Ready momma?"

Taking her shawl and getting up, she took Jemimas hand and they headed for the restaurant. As they reached it Beauregard was waiting for them outside. Offering his arm to Destiny, he escorted them into the restaurant and to their table.

They talked and ate. They had a good time, and Destiny was glad to see this side of Beauregard. She thought she might be able to get like him after all.
