SEPTEMBER 3, 1860

A couple of days ago it had been his birthday. Know one knew when his birthday was or how he was, and he didn’t plan on telling anyone either. He would just rather forget it himself. All it did was remind him of how old he was getting. While riding into town Caller Bob decided to spare several people of their agonizing new jobs and let them change back to their regular jobs today.

Desiree was ready to get back to her old job. She was hoping that someone would switch her soon. She didn’t like being the banker. Her heart was too soft for this job, and she had a hard time collecting rent from people. In fact when Walter had come in yesterday to see how she was doing, he had gave her a lecture about her giving people more time to pay their rent. He had told her that they were just giving her the run around because she wasn’t being stern and persistent enough on them to get them to pay.

Desiree was heading over to the hotel for lunch when she happened to see Caller Bob coming out of the jailhouse, and he waved to her and started heading towards her. So Desiree stopped to greet him.

"Good morning, Miss Desiree," Caller Bob tipped his hat and smiled.

"Good morning." Desiree let out a sigh.

"Is something the matter? You don’t seem very happy today." Caller Bob was always concerned with the citizens of Dreamville. He took it upon himself to make sure everybody was doing well.

"I’m just tired of working at the bank, and I want to get back to my regular job." Desiree dreadfully hated working at the bank and was looking forward to singing in the saloon hopefully soon.

"Well, then today is your lucky day." Caller Bob happily said as he handed her a gift card stating that she could return to her old place of employment.

Desiree’s face lit up as she read the gift card. "Thank you," she said as she gave Caller Bob a big old ‘Yellow Rock’ right there in the middle of the street. She started to run back to the bank to show Ivy and then abruptly stopped. She ran back to where Caller Bob was, "Do you have one for Ivy, too."

"As a matter of fact, yes I do." Caller Bob handed her the gift card, and Desiree gave him a quick hug again, and then ran straight over to the bank to inform Ivy of the good news.

Caller Bob headed toward the hotel. He had two more gift cards to deliver, and he was very sure that the two reciprocates would be very pleased. Maybe just as pleased as Desiree, but of course they wouldn’t ever outwardly show it as Desiree had just done.
