MAY 28, 1860

Desiree entered the PEG office. Melissa had convinced her to take square dancing lessons, and since Melissa had gave her free riding lessons, she decided it was the least she could do for her. Besides Melissa had told her it would be a great way to make friends. But as Desiree entered, Jacy was busy with Mr. Simmons, so she waited patiently.

"This is great Mr. Simmons." Jacy was saying.

"Now if you dont start calling me Walter, Im going to stop bringing you articles." Walter replied.

"Alright Mr. . . . I mean Walter. Thanks for the articles and for volunteering to help the square dance class."

"It was my pleasure, Miss Jacy." As he turned around and spotted Desiree, Walter said, "Good morning!"

Jacy turned around and smiled. "Im sorry, Desiree. I didnt hear you come in."

"Well, Ill be going now, Miss Jacy."

Jacy stood up and walked Mr. Simmons to the door and thanked him again. After Mr. Simmons left, Jacy turned around and asked, "Now what can I do for you, Desiree?"

"Well, I saw the ad in the paper, and I would like to sign up to take square dancing lessons." Desiree explained.

Jacy was surprised. She knew Melissa had been teaching Desiree how to ride, but she never thought that Desiree would want to learn to square dance. Even though Melissa had told her that Desiree might sign up. Desiree worked in the saloon, and Jacy didnt really like saloons much, although this one did have a very attractive owner.

Chastising herself Jacy handed Desiree a pen and the sign up sheet. "Im glad youre signing up." After supplying her signature, Desiree left. Jacy thought dont judge a person before you get to know them, no matter where they work. She has every right to join the class if she wants to. Jacy was disappointed in herself for thinking such negative thoughts. Her ma had raised her better than that, and she resolved not to do that again.
