APRIL 18, 1861

Desiree and Marta were in the kitchen discussing Samantha and Tally. "What do you think Samantha is thinking about Tally or should we start calling him Jedidiah now?" Desiree inquired.

"That's a good question . . . two very good questions, but I don't know the answers to either one. I guess we will just have to wait and see what everybody else is going to call him or see what name he likes to go by now. As for Samantha I'm not sure how she's going to react. He hasn't really been lying to her, but then again he hasn't really told the truth. I don't think he should have kept his identity a secret. Do you?"

"Well, I don't think it was truly wrong of him to do it. I'm sure he had his reasons. Everybody has reasons that they think are good at the time they do things. And I'm sure you have secrets that you haven't revealed to anyone, just as I have. Of course mine isn't a secret identity. Although I wish it was. I wish I was secretly a tycoon that owns a railroad." Desiree smirked at Marta.

"Will Samantha still like him since he kept his secret identity from her?" Marta wondered.

"Well, if she doesn't, I'm sure he will have lots of gals swarming all over him. He's very handsome and rich to boot." Desiree wouldn't mind having a fella that was a tycoon. Then she wouldn't have to sing in the saloon. He could buy her a palace for her to perform in.

"Desiree, you don't have eyes for our young Mr. Wagons, do you?" Marta asked.

"No, of course not. I wouldn't dream of going after Samantha's fella. But of course if she doesn't like him anymore, and if she doesn't mind then I wouldn't mind being his gal." Desiree went back to kneading dough for the bread she was going to bake.

"Hmmm . . . well you'll just have to wait and see if they're still seeing each other unless you want to go and talk to Samantha about it now." Marta's eyes gleamed.

"No, I can wait." Desiree shook her head at Marta's suggestion. "I'm sure it won't be long before we find out how Samantha feels about Tally . . . or Jedidiah." Desiree stopped kneading the dough and grabbed up a plate full of food. "Here go on and take this out, so I can get back to cooking."

Marta grinned as she took the plate from Desiree and then she scurried out the kitchen door. Her and Desiree had become really good friends since they had started working together. She just hoped that Desiree and Samantha wouldn't get in a fight over Tally. She wouldn't want to have to choose between them as friends because she liked both of them. They were both very nice.
