JANUARY 20, 1861
"Arrrrrrrrrgh."
Daniel heard his wife's frustrated growl and carefully poked his head into the kitchen. She was sitting at the table looking sullenly out the window. "What's wrong Love?"
"My due date has passed and I'm beginning to get frustrated."
He chuckled softly then reined in his humor when she shot him a look full of venom. "Sorry." He Muttered then took a seat beside his wife and clasped her hand gently in his. "You know things like this happen when it's right. You are healthy and only a few days late, maybe we calculated wrong."
"I guess it's possible." She grumbled softly. "What are we going to do about the square dancing graduation and Valentine's dance?"
"We'll see how you're feeling for each and decide on the day if we're going. We might have a newborn to care for."
"Lord I hope so."
"Have you seen Meg lately?"
Serena nodded and grimaced slightly as she remembered the tension in the room on Christmas between Meghan and Ian. "She's doing well. I think she's finally enjoying her pregnancy."
There was something in Serena's voice that set off alarms in Daniel. "But?"
"But nothing." She replied. "She's just feeling the baby move around a lot and her abdomen has dropped."
"You think the baby might be early?"
"I think so and I'm frightened for what people will start to assume."
Daniel nodded. "That she was already pregnant when she married Luke."
"Exactly."
"Meg can handle it and she has us for support." He rose and kissed the top of Serena's head tenderly. "Let's go buy you a new dress for the dances and then we can go out to dinner tonight."
She smiled. "I'd like that."
"Good. I better get back to work then."
When Daniel left, Serena exhaled loudly and rubbed her swollen middle gently. "Come on little one, come out into the world." She said softly, as if the baby heard her, he gave a little kick against her palm making Serena smile.
