SEPTEMBER 9, 1860
Cody came riding onto Caller Bob's property. He saw Beauregard just dropping to the ground, and as Beauregard went up to the door, Cody pulled Prankster up beside Beauregard's horse.
Upon hearing a knock at the door Caller Bob opened it. He saw Beauregard in front of him and Cody on his horse, "Good morning, so what do I owe this pleasure?" He smiled and stepped out onto the porch closing the door behind him.
"Good morning, Caller Bob," Cody replied and paused. He waited to see if Beauregard was going to say anything besides he had beat Cody here.
"Good morning," Beauregard continued, "I've come to pay a fine to get someone back to their job."
"That's why I'm here." Cody said as he dropped to the ground. He joined the two gentlemen on the porch.
Caller Bob looked at both of them. "So who do you want to pay for, Beauregard?"
"I'm here to pay for Destiny. I think it's time for her to get back to the boarding house and to Jemima." Beauregard pulled out some bills. "How much do I have to pay?"
"That would be ten dollars for Destiny to return to the boarding house." Caller Bob informed him. Beauregard counted out the bills and handed them over.
"How much for Jesse to return to the station? Rachel has been missing the young lad more since Michael went back home." Cody pulled some money out of his inside buckskin pocket as he waited for Caller Bob to answer.
"It's the same amount." Caller Bob replied, so Cody handed him ten bucks, too.
"Thanks gentleman, I'll let them know today." Caller Bob said as he pocketed the money.
"Thank you," Beauregard said, "Well, I have some things to do, so I'd better get going."
"Me too," Cody nodded at Caller Bob and went to mount Prankster. Caller Bob could tell that Cody was still upset about Jacy. He wondered what would happen to Cody if they never did find Jacy. Ever since Jacy had left, Cody hadn't been his old chipper self. The poor guy was hurting terribly, and Caller Bob wondered if this would break Cody's spirits for good.
