MAY 28, 1861
As Simon helped Noah load some feed into the wagon, he asked, "You going to help build the new church?"
Removing his hat, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and grinned, "I sure am. It's a good chance to spend time with Ivy."
"Let's hope you're not going to play kissy face." Cody said as he carried a box out filled with supplies.
Noah glared at him. "I don't play kissy face, Cody. That's your job." He smiled as Cody gave him a mocked hurt look.
"Oh, leave him alone, Cody. It's good to be young and in love." Javier said as he walked up behind Cody.
Just as Cody was going to answer him, he saw Michael and Jesse rushing into town. Since Michael's horse was the closest to him, Cody waved his arms and blocked his way. "Whoa, Michael, why aren't you two in school?"
Michael abruptly stopped his horse and replied, "The swings fell and Brianna and Jemima are trapped under the beam." Michael then turned his horse and went around Cody, following Jesse.
Cody turned to the others. "Better go find out what's really going on."
Simon and Noah nodded while Javier headed back inside to tell Jennifer where they were heading and what was going on. Then he headed for the school.
Jennifer went to the doorway and watched as Javier and Noah left. She wished she could go. It might make for an interesting story. Although she hoped the children would be all right.
