JANUARY 9, 1861
Cody had talked with Rachel about the necklace, but she didn’t know anything about it since she hadn’t even seen it. She had just wrapped it for him. He then decided to go talk with Simon, maybe he had accidentally switched the necklaces when Cody was purchasing it. Simon showed Cody the necklaces that were left. There were two ‘J’s left, and he had started out with four, and only Cody and Destiny had bought one. He was however confused about the ‘C’ necklaces because there was only one left, but he only remembers selling two, and Javier had told him that he hadn’t sold any necklaces. But he just couldn’t think of anybody in town who would steal a necklace, and it wasn’t worth much so he wasn’t going to report it just in case he had made a mistake, and he had sold one that he didn’t remember. The only two that he could remember selling was one to Buck and one to Charlie.
Cody sat down outside the mercantile wracking his brain trying to figure out what could have happened. Then he remembered Buck showing him one he had bought for Caly. It was the same thing, a necklace with the letter C. He hoped that his and Buck’s did get mixed up that way he would have a logical explanation for Jacy because right now he couldn’t think of any other place it could be. He knew Buck had taken Caly over to Cripple Creek for her birthday, so he would have to wait till he returned to talk to him.
Tally saw Cody enter the store, and then come outside with a puzzled expression on his face. He then remembered overhearing Elena telling Charity about how she had switched necklaces and had taken Cody’s. Tally wondered if that’s why Cody looked so upset. He walked over to Cody. "Hey Cody, what’s wrong?"
Cody replied, "The ‘J’ necklace I was going to give Jacy for Christmas, I’ve seem to have lost it."
Tally shook his head, "That’s a shame. Well, if I find it, I’ll let you know."
Cody looked up at him. "Thanks Tally. I’d really appreciate it."
Tally nodded, "Is that why you and Jacy haven’t been together lately."
Cody nodded.
"I sure hope everything turns out alright." Tally said and then headed over to the livery to see Samantha. On his way over he began to figure out a plan on how he could get the necklace out of Elena’s room without her suspecting anything. She sure needed to be taught a lesson for meddling into their lives, Cody’s and Jacy’s. Jacy deserved to be happy. And if Cody was the one who made her happy than Tally was going to make pretty darn sure that they stayed together even if it meant keeping Elena and Charity out of the way.
As Cody kept looking for the necklace, he wondered who had sent him the Cupid letter. He hoped it was Jacy, but he wasn't sure. She just wasn't herself since she returned.
