JUNE 20, 1860
Clover was excited. She had just overheard Ivy and Noah having an argument. She replayed everything over in her mind as she laid on her bed. Noah and Ivy had been out back on the boarding house porch, and Clover had known they were there, so she had listened to their argument from the side of the boarding house.
"Ivy, I saw you with him, and you cant deny it. You were wrapped in his arms." But before Ivy could utter an explanation, Noah continued, "Maybe you did put that article in the paper, and youre the flirtatious type, not Clover."
"How dare you, Mr. Dixon." Ivy spat at him as she slapped his face. Before Noah could say anything more, Ivy ran inside.
Noah rounded the corner of the boarding house and ran right into Clover. "Oh excuse me." Noah said as he stepped back off her toes.
Clover shrugged it off besides her toes didnt hurt much. "Thats ok. I like handsome men running into me, especially you." She smiled and batted her eyelashes at him.
Noahs temper subsided, and he asked Clover if she would like to have supper with him. Of course Clover agreed. They went to the Silver Spoon and had a lovely evening even though some folks called her Ivy, and after a while she told Noah to just quit explaining who she was and ignore them. Noah did and tried his best to seem like he was having a good time, but sometimes his mind would drift off to Ivy.
Noah walked Clover home, and he said, "Maybe I should have been dating you all along." Clover smiled at him. She was tempted to kiss him, but she didnt rush things and possible ruin what they had just begun. After a brief pause Noah said, "You know Ivy and I were going to sign up for square dancin at Caller Bobs. You wouldnt be interested, would ya?"
Without even considering it, Clover answered, "Id love to, Noah." Clover was so overwhelmed that she ended up in her bed without even remembering walking the route to her room.
Noah smiled up at Ivy who was looking out the window as Clover entered the boarding house.
