FEBRUARY 19, 1861
As she took a break after the lunch rush, Clover thought of her meeting with Noah on Valentine’s night. She thought she had seen him smile at first.
She was startled from her thoughts when Charlie called her name, "Yes, Charlie."
Charlie pointed to the doorway. "Customer, hun."
Clover smiled, "Oh sorry. Lost in my thoughts again." She headed over to wait on the customer.
Charlie smiled knowing just what she meant. His thoughts keep drifting to Grace.
Just then he was brought back to the present when Samantha came in.
"Charlie, Charlie. You okay? You seem to be off somewhere."
Charlie shook his head, "Oh sorry, Samantha. I was just thinking. What can I do for you?"
Samantha smiled, "I was hoping to get two lunches to go. I want to surprise Tally."
Charlie smiled, "Sure thing. I'll make them myself. Be ready in twenty minutes."
Samantha smiled, "Alright. I'll be back for them. I want to change first."
Charlie nodded and headed for the kitchen.
Samantha left the restaurant and went to change. On her way back she bumped into Jake. "Oh excuse me, sir. I didn't see you."
Jake smiled and tipped his hat. "It's alright, Ma'am. I'm Jake Fresno."
Samantha smiled, "Hello Mr. Fresno. I'm Samantha Calhoun. I run the livery and the blacksmith."
"Well hello, now I know why my horse never wants to leave the livery. He has the most loveliest groomer in the world.." Jake’s mouth dripped flattery as he scanned the pretty lady from top to bottom. Samantha didn’t know what to make of this gentleman, so she just smiled and continued on to the restaurant where she picked up her order and then headed for the bordello to surprise Tally.
Jake was liking this town more and more every day.
