MARCH 16, 1861

Charity smirked as she looked through the catalogue. There wasn't anything there that she found the least bit suitable for a wedding gift. At least for Meg's wedding she'd had that rumor running and the bassinet seemed the perfect gift. However Lilly had kept herself rumor free, and Charity didn't have the heart to start one about the younger woman. She happened to like her.

"Whatcha doin'?"

Charity turned with a smile for Elena. Though many of the store patrons gave the young prostitute either a wide berth or a dirty look, Charity always liked the attitude of the girl and could find no fault in her despite what her chosen profession was. "I'm looking for a wedding gift."

"Oh."

"Are you going?" Charity asked.

Elena arched an eyebrow. "And sully the perfection of the day? I'm sure I'm not invited."

"Maybe Ian will take you. Or Luke."

The prostitute snorted as she looked through the catalogue. "Luke wants nothing to do with me. I'm going to give him some space until his problems with Meg are solved."

"And Ian?"

Elena grimaced. "What does that girl have that I don't? Why does every man I find attractive automatically run off to be with Meg? Ian runs after her like a dog in heat."

Charity's eyebrows rose. "So Ian hasn't come by?"

"Nope." Elena sighed softly. "I miss him."

"Were you falling for him Elena?"

"I swear if you start a rumor-"

"I won't." Charity said before Elena could finish. "You're my friend I wouldn't do that to you."

"Thanks." Elena stopped at a page in the catalogue. "What about these?"

Charity looked down and shrugged. "You don't think that's too personal?"

"Nope. Every new household needs linens. I think this is a perfect gift."

Charity smiled and nodded. "Okay, I'll find out what kind of bedroom set they have and order the bedroom set. Thank you Elena."

"That's what friends are for Charity." She waited until Charity placed the order with Simon then walked out with her. "Will you be going to the rodeo?"

"I think so."

"Alone, or with Cody?"

Charity blushed. "I guess I'm going alone. Cody is still chasing after Jacy. Though why, I'll never understand."

"His loss." Elena replied. "Well, then I suppose we should meet up. Dean is entering an event so I'm going to cheer him."

"And-"

Elena smiled. Her friend knew her well. "And to drum up business for the bordello. If I manage to gain some attention from certain gentlemen, well all the better for me."

"You are too much Elena, but that's why I like you. I'll be happy to meet you there."

That settled the young prostitute left her friend at the restaurant and went back to the bordello to prepare for her night.
