JANUARY 18, 1861

Buck was all alone out in the field overlooking the beautiful sunset. He was tired of being in turmoil, but didn't know what to do about it. He had came out here to pray, but he had fallen asleep instead. His dream had been very revealing.

He dreamt that Corey and Dean were happy together and that he was with Caly. In his dream neither of the two girls were hurt. They both were happy. If only real life could be like that. But was it his subconscious or was it the gods telling him that he wanted to be and needed to be with Caly? He would have to think on it some more.

Caly rode over to the way station. Riding into the yard she saw Lee and Grace talking on the porch of the bunkhouse. After tying Star to the rail she climbed the stairs and sat on the rail. "Morning Lee, Grace."

"Morning Caly. I was just telling Grace about the square dance graduation. Think maybe we could get Jimmy and a few others to help teach her?" Lee winked and smiled at Grace.

Caly thought for a moment then nodded, "Sure we can. I know of someone who would be a good partner for you Grace. I'll go get him if you want?"

Grace nodded, "Sure that would be great. I'll help Lee get Jimmy and Buck, maybe Uncle Teaspoon and Rachel will help us."

Caly nodded, "Great I'll be right back with Charlie." She ran down the steps, untied Star, mounted, and rode towards town.

Lee found Jimmy in the bunkhouse cleaning his guns. "Jimmy come on. We are going to teach Grace to square dance." She gave him an excited smile.

He smiled knowing he couldn't deny her anything, especially when she smiled like that. "Alright I'll help." He stood and reholstered his guns.

Grace found Buck in the barn. "Buck can I ask a favor?"

Buck looked up from the saddle he was repairing. "Sure Grace. What is it?"

Grace shifted her weight. "Well, Lee, Caly and a few others are going to teach me to square dance. Would you join us?"

Buck smiled, "Sure I'll help. Just give me a chance to clean up"

Grace nodded, "Sure, I'm off to find Uncle Teaspoon."

Buck smiled and watched Grace leave. He was glad to help out and be able to spend time with Caly.

Caly rode up to the Hotel. She knew she had to hurry. Entering the hotel, she saw Walter was with a customer, so she waited.

When Walter finished with the customer, he spotted Caly. "Hello, Caly. How may I help you?"

"Well maybe I can help you. I hear you need help running the hotel. I would be willing to help you out part-time." Caly was a bit nervous but glad she might be able to help out.

Walter thought about it. Caly was young, but she did help her father run their ranch. He could use sometime away during the day. "Alright if your father doesn't mind. But only during the day."

Caly smiled. "Its okay with him. Thank you Mr. Simmons."

"You're Welcome. Thank you for helping out till I can find full-time help. Be here tomorrow morning."

"I will see you then." Caly said as she headed out the door. Crossing the street and upon entering the restaurant she saw Charlie exiting the kitchen. "Charlie!" She called to him as she walked towards him.

Charlie smiled at seeing her coming towards him. Charity secretly smiled to herself. She knew she was right about how Charlie felt about the Johnson girl.

Caly greeted Charlie with a hug, "Hello. I was wondering if you could help me out with something?"

Charlie smiled back at her. "Sure what is it?"

Caly looked around then pulled Charlie into the kitchen. "Well some of the riders, and I are going to teach Grace how to square dance. I was hoping you would be her partner."

Charlie thought about it. "Okay, just tell me when and where."

A smiled lit up her face. "Oh great. Thank you, Charlie. At the way-station in an hour."

Charlie nodded, "Alright. I'll be there."

Caly smiled and hugged him, "Thank you."

Charlie hugged back. "You're Welcome."

Caly hurried from the restaurant.

An hour later Charlie rode into the way station. He saw everyone talking on the porch. He tied Jack to the corral and joined the others.

Caly smiled when she saw Charlie. "Charlie this is Grace. Grace this is Charlie."

Charlie bowed, "Hello Miss Grace. Its nice to see you again."

Grace blushed and shook Charlie's hand. "Its nice to see you again, too."

Caly could see that they were uncomfortable. "Well lets get started."

They all headed for the barn. Grace stopped Caly, "Caly is there anything between you and Charlie?"

Caly smiled, "No, we're just good friends. Hes helped me start to trust men other then the riders. Besides someone else has my heart. But he hasn't told me how he feels yet."

Grace smiled, "Hes cute and so much the gentleman."

Caly nodded, "Yes, he is."

They were all laughing and having a good time.

As they were working on the Cross the Ocean move. Buck was thinking to himself about the differences between Caly and Corey. He knew he was close to both of them. After praying last night and the vision that he had, he thought he knew . . . he thought he knew whom he wanted to be with. However, he was afraid that he would end up hurting one or the other. As he took in the strawberry smell of Caly's hair, he was lost in his thoughts and didn't realize he was speaking aloud. "I love you." It came out in a mumble and no one heard but Caly.

Caly stopped in her tracks. She wasn't sure if she heard Buck. Touching his arm, "Excuse me, Buck, what? Did I hear you right?"

Buck looked confused for a minute. Then he realized what he said, "Yes, you did. I was going to tell you later, but now I'm glad I didn't wait."

"Oh Buck. I was afraid you didn't feel the same way." Caly said as she hugged him.

"I do. We'll talk later. Lets help Grace so she can be at the graduation."

Caly nodded in agreement. They worked for a few hours. They even talked about the graduation.

Everyone started to leave. Grace and Charlie where getting along real good. As Caly started to untie Star. Buck stopped her, "Let me escort my girl home."

Caly nodded. She was at a lost for words. Her dreams had come true. Buck saddled Wind Dancer. He led him from the barn and helped Caly mount. They rode back to her ranch. Buck felt better now that he made his decision. He just hoped Corey would understand.

Jimmy remembered that he didn't check his saddlebags. He went over to his bunk and started going through his saddlebags. He pulled out a letter. He saw Lee sitting there reading her book. He smiled to himself that Lee could be that sneaky. He climbed into his bunk and fell asleep dreaming about being with his girl at Snake River. It was one of their favorite spots.
