NOVEMBER 5, 1861

“You’re the first adoption meeting that I’ve had.” Judge Chamer said as Caller Bob and the two youngin’s took their seats in the courthouse, which was really the saloon, but for this morning it was being used for legal proceedings.

“Now I understand that you want to adopt these two children. Is this correct, Mayor Sitzler?”

“Yes your honor, the children have been living with me for over a month now, and I’ve come to love them like my own.” Caller Bob replied. Tyrell looked up at Caller Bob and smiled.

“Alright, now Tye and Tyrell how do you feel about living with Mayor Sitzler?”

“Oh, we love him, we love living at the Grand Square Farm. It’s a wonderful place. We want to stay and live with Uncle Caller Bob,” she answered and then added, “Your honor, can we please stay with Uncle Caller Bob?” Tye just nodded his head agreeing with everything that Tyrell said.

“Well, I’ve read over these statements about what type of man you are, Mayor Sitzler. And even though you’re not married, you’re a remarkable man working for the good of this town and the people in it. Sheriff Teaspoon gives you a very highly good recommendation. So Mayor Sitzler, I hereby grant you custody of these two children with reviews of this decision in about six months for permanent adoption.”

“What does he mean?” Tyrell looked to Caller Bob for an answer.

“He means that you’re to come live with me. You’ll be in my care from now on.”

“Forever?” Tyrell’s eyes lit up.

“Hopefully, the judge will be back in about six months to see how we’re fairin’ and if all looks good to him then I’ll be able to adopt you for good.” He swooped down and picked up his little girl. “Come on Tye, I think this is a time for celebration. Let’s go eat at the Silver Spoon.” Caller Bob, Tyrell and Tye headed out of the saloon with great big smiles on their faces.
