OCTOBER 15, 1861

While walking across the street, Teaspoon hollered at Caller Bob as he saw him dismounting in front of the hotel. “Hey whatcha got there?”

Caller Bob turned around to see his good friend Teaspoon. He waited until Teaspoon was closer before he replied. “I have a parchment with a song written on it that Desiree wrote. She’s going to put it in a frame and give it to Caly and Buck for their wedding present. She’s also going to sing the song at their wedding.”

Teaspoon rubbed his chin, “Well, isn’t that just dandy. So what are you getting them for a wedding present?”

“I saw this pretty painting in Broken Bow when I was getting this parchment today, so I bought it for them. It’s a herd of horses running in a field. I think they will like it.”

“I’m sure they will.”

“Whatcha getting them?”

“I’m helping the boys build Caly and Buck a house.” Teaspoon actually wasn’t doing much work. He was doing more supervising than work. “Hey how about we have us a drink at the saloon?” Teaspoon saw Tyler coming out of the saloon and heading this way.

“How about I meet you there after I deliver this.” Caller Bob wondered who the new girl was in town. She was wearing a gun, and she looked very confident like she knew how to use it.

“I’ll meet ya there.” Teaspoon nodded.

Caller Bob went into the hotel. Teaspoon started for the saloon, but Tyler stopped him. “Have you heard any word from Jedidiah yet?”

Teaspoon shook his head, “No, I haven’t, but if I do I’ll let you know. He’ll probably be back in town sometime soon. I doubt he’ll send me a letter.”

“Doesn’t he have a family here in town? Maybe they have some news about him.” Tyler hated hanging around town when she could be out catching outlaws and earning reward money.

“I don’t want you bothering them. I’ll talk to them, and if they’ve heard anything about him, then I’ll let you know.” Teaspoon didn’t want her pestering Jacy about money she was owed by Jedidiah. If Jedidiah owed her money then he would pay her when he returned.

Teaspoon started for the saloon but stopped when Caller Bob and Jennie stepped outside. He noticed that Jennie seemed disturbed when she saw Tyler. He wondered if they knew each other. He turned and saw a flicker of recognition in Tyler’s eyes. Jennie quickly hurried down the boardwalk to the PEG, not even waiting for Caller Bob. Tyler went over to the livery stables to saddle her horse.

As Caller Bob and Teaspoon were walking to the saloon, Caller Bob asked, “Who is that girl?”

“She’s the one who shot the drunk, who shot you.” Teaspoon answered.

That piqued Caller Bob’s interest even more. He would have to get to know her. They entered the saloon and Caller Bob bought a couple of round of drinks for him and Teaspoon while they talked.
