JANUARY 24, 1860

CJ was riding to the schoolhouse to give Kathleen a note from Catherine. Almost to the school CJ saw a young girl walking back to the city.

CJ knew he had seen her before.

"It's the girl who was with the rider and the pretty girl when I arrived," he told himself. CJ then stopped his horse next to the girl.

"Hi there," CJ said smiling.

"Hello," Melissa answered shyly.

"I'm CJ Hudson. I live in the hotel and you are?" CJ asked getting down from Catherine's horse Thief.

Melissa stood in silence, not knowing why CJ was interested in her.

"If you want I can ride you back home."

"Why? You are going the other way."

"I like to help ladies, and you can use the extra time to do something else you like such as. " CJ replied hoping that Melissa started to talk more.

"I like fishing," Melissa said.

"Don't tell me that. I love fishing, I fished all the time in my hometown"

Melissa looked at CJ smiling; He is nice, she thought. "I'm Melissa, my sister and I own the Gazette in town."

"Your sister?!" CJ repeated thinking about the girl he saw with Melissa and the Pony Express rider.

"Yeah, Jacy," Melissa was more relaxed and they stood there talking for a little while.

"Come on," CJ said mounting the horse and offering Melissa his hand "Ill take you home."

Melissa hesitated but finally she accepted and mounted on the horse with CJ. During the time they rode back to Dreamville CJ asked a few questions about Melissa and of course hoping that she would say something about Jacy, too.

"So Melissa, are you and your sister liking Dreamville?"

"Yes, we are Mr. Hudson."

"Please call me CJ, we are friends now," CJ stated.

Melissa nodded, "Ok, CJ."

"And are you going to the dance, Melissa? I'm sure you are, a pretty girl like you must have a lot of boys around," CJ asked trying to be very pleasant with Melissa.

"I think I will go, but I don't have that many boys, CJ."

"Don't have? What's wrong with these boys? Are they all blind?" CJ said. Melissa smiled liking CJ's way.

"I probably will go even if I don't get a date. Jacy is helping to organize the dance." Melissa explained to CJ as they got next to the Gazette.

CJ got down from the horse and helped Melissa to get down, too.

"Here we are, sweet," CJ said smiling.

"Thanks CJ," Melissa replied happily.

"Any time sweet and let's go fishing some day," CJ replied mounting again.

"Great CJ," Melissa answered running into the Gazette.

CJ stayed there for a little while. Now that he was friends with Melissa, he could use the girls help with his next objective, Jacy.

CJ, then, rode back to the schoolhouse to finally give Kathleen, Catherine 's note.
