THE BAKE/CRAFT/RAFFLE SALE!

FEBRUARY 14, 1860

Blythe smiled as she heard Kid walk into the store and talk to Mr. Cromwell. She hurried to finish putting the finishing touches on her hair, which she was wearing down with tiny braids scattered through it. Going to her trunk, she pulled out the only thing of any value that she owned. It was a pretty charm on a gold chain. The charm was a blue stone with glass beads set around it. It really wasn't worth much, but it had belonged to her mother, so it had sentimental value for her. Plus it looked perfect with her dress.

She walked downstairs, and smiled at Kid who was waiting for her. He shyly handed her the wildflowers he had picked for her.

"Thank you Kid, they are beautiful," she breathed in the scent of the flowers. "Let me put these in a vase, and I'll be ready."

Once Blythe got the flowers in water, Kid offered her his arm, and they walked together to the dance.

After a while, both Kid and Blythe had greeted enough people, so they decided to take a break. They walked over and Kid bought them each a supper plate. After eating they went to look at the items that had been donated for the school. Blythe pointed out some gloves she had knitted, and Kid immediately bought a pair.

"I need some new gloves, and these are just perfect," he said pulling out two dollars.

Blythe found a pretty hat that she liked, and bought one of the wooden animals that the schoolboys had whittled. Kid bought her a couple of the paper flowers the girls had made.

"Now you have real flowers, and paper ones," he smiled, handing them to her.
