FEBRUARY 21, 1860
Wild Bird had asked Buck to meet him at the hotel. When Buck got there Wild Bird was busy and since the office was near the check in desk, Buck stood there talking to Eddie.
"Did you enjoy the dance, Mr. Cross?"
"Yes, I did. Did you?"
"Yes, I did. Uh, who was that stunning lady you escorted to the dance, Mr. Cross?"
"That was Miss Caly Johnson, Mr. Cole," Buck said with a smile on his face. Just then Wild Bird motioned for Buck to meet with him in the office.
"Running Buck, have a seat. How are you this afternoon?"
"I'm fine. How are you?"
"I'm fine. I just have a question for you. I was wondering if you knew if Jimmy had his eye on anyone?"
Buck looked at Bird intrigued. He didn't know why Bird was interested in Jimmy's life.
"Well, Wild Bird, that's a question for you to ask Jimmy himself, because I don't pry into my friend's lives, and I don't gossip about them either. Is there anything else?"
"No, there isn't. And you are right, Buck. I didn't mean to gossip. I'm sorry." Bird regretted asking that question. He knew that if Catherine found out about it, she would be mad at him.
"It's ok, Wild Bird," Buck left thinking that Bird probably had a strong reason for asking such a question, but he wasn't sure why.
Wild Bird sat there thinking that he needed to find a way to set up Catherine and Jimmy. Bird wanted Catherine to be happy and he was sure that she would be with Jimmy.
