NOVEMBER 8, 1861
Brandon watched Jennie leave the general
store with the judge that was in town for all the children from the orphan train and the
men that had hurt them.
As much as he wanted to go over to her and
tell her he didn't like how the judge was looking at her, he knew it would ruin his
chances with her. A smile crossed his face when he saw the young woman he was thinking
about walk towards him. "Jennie, I was hoping I could get you away for a nice buggy
ride on this beautiful day."
Jennie nodded. "I'd like that Brandon.
Thank you."
The young man offered her his arm and then
led her over to the livery and rented a buggy. He helped her into the buggy and then
climbed in himself. He headed the horses west out of town.
On their lovely ride, Brandon mentioned the
Thanksgiving dinner that Jedidiah was having at his arena, and invited Jennie to be his
date. Happily Jennie accepted.
