MARCH 15, 1860

Beauregard walked distracted towards the general store when he crossed with Blythe, who was coming out of the store. She had in her hands a couple of packages, and Beauregard stumbled and fell over Blythe making her fall dropping all the packages.

"Ohh," Blythe shouted as she was falling down. "No, my glasses," she said as she heard the noise of the glass breaking when one of the packages reached the ground.

"Damn it," Beauregard yelled as he was standing up and cleaning his clothes. He looked at Blythe who was still down, looking at the pieces of glass.

"Are you ok Miss?" Beauregard asked.

"Look at my glasses. I just bought them, and now they are ruined, broken," she replied not looking at him as she tried to pick up the broken pieces.

"I'm sorry ma'am," Beauregard replied.

"Ouch," Blythe shouted when she wounded her hand on the glass.

"Oh miss. Let me help you", Beauregard said as he took a tissue from his jacket and gave it to Blythe as she was standing up, her hand was bleeding.

Beauregard helped her to pressure the wound with the tissue and walked with her to the doctor's office.

"May I help you?" Daniel Thompson asked as she watched Beauregard and Blythe coming in.

"Yeah, she has a cut on her hand, can you help her please?" Beauregard explained to Daniel.

"Sure, come sit here Miss?"

"I'm Blythe, Blythe Winslow," Blythe answered walking towards Daniel and then sitting down.

"Well it doesn't look like a deep cut, so I'm going to clean it and make a curative. I'm gonna give you a pain pill, you might feel some pain," Daniel explained as he was treating Blythe's hand.

Beauregard watched everything from the door. He was feeling guilty, the poor girl got hurt because he wasn't paying attention.

"How did it happen?" Daniel asked

"I stumbled and I made her fall, doctor. She got hurt when she was trying to pick up some pieces of the glasses," Beauregard explained, "I'm sorry Miss Winslow. I didn't mean to cause you trouble"

"Oh, it wasn't your fault. I think you had bad luck, you find yourself trouble, after all you had to waste your time and bring me here, you didn't need to bother," Blythe replied. It was an accident, and she didn't want to bother Mr. Fothergill. She knew him from the town and some people commented that he was very serious and reserved. She thought him nice even getting to know him under that circumstance.

"It isn't no bother Miss Winslow," he replied.

Daniel finished treating Blythe, "Ok, I think she is fine now, you won't have any scars, perhaps a little one, but you are gonna be fine. Keep cleaning the wound and switching the bandage, ok? "

Blythe nodded agreeing, "How much I owe you, doctor?"

"No, I'm going to pay," Beauregard interrupted Blythe.

"No, you don't need to Mr. Fothergill."

"I insist Miss Winslow. Doctor, how much?"

"It's $.60 Mr. Fothergill," Daniel replied

Beauregard paid for the consult to Daniel and walked Blythe to her home. He excused himself for the accident and went back to the hotel.
