INTRODUCING LUKE!

Luke Saunders sat on the steps of his Aussie Barber’s Emporium and watched the town move into life around him. He smiled as he thought back over his life so far and the events that had brought him here. He knew that many of the folks back home thought he was crazy but he was here now and having the time of his life. The only thing that could have made it more perfect was the love of the woman he loved.

Born 25 years ago in the high country above Sydney, high in the Blue Mountains, he was born the only son of a wealthy sheep farmer and his lovely wife, who soon after the birth of their first son found they were not able to have any more children. He had a dreamlike childhood growing up with the world at his feet learning his father’s craft from the ground up, but he was never truly happy on the family station. The best part of the life he had on the station was the fact that his best friends were the young aboriginal children from the local tribe who often took him to their corroborees and spoke often of their dreamtime legends. So enthralled was he by the legends he would sit by the campfire night after night memorizing the tales that the tribal elders told.

However, it was not that he wanted to travel, but he wanted his life to be for something, not just to grow up and take over the family farm. He would do it for his father if that was what he wanted but he knew it would kill him from the inside out. His father realized his malcontent however, and although not happily, let his son go.

He had a deep and spiritual love of learning about the varied cultures around the world particularly the world of the American Indians that he heard so much about. So it was with a heavy heart he kissed his mother goodbye and said his farewells to his father promising them both that he would write as often as he could and one day he would return.

He spent a short time living in Sydney, meeting quite by chance a lovely young lady Miss Serena Taylor, and instantly lost his heart. She was breathtaking and stole his love without even being aware of it. He smiled wryly to himself as he shook his head. He loved her with all his heart and she thought of him as the big brother that she never had, so he had resolved never to tell her of his love.

He had however, gained an ally, Meghan Thomson, Serena’s new stepdaughter rapidly became like the sister he had never had. He smiled as he thought of the hours that they had spent together, discussing their hopes and dreams. Luke wishing that he could somehow help his good friend Buck notice his ‘little sis’ as he called her, and then at least one of them could find true and complete happiness.

Besides, he had traveled with her to the new land he loved, watched with joy and sorrow at her marriage to Doctor Daniel Thomson and then traveled with the Thomson family to Dreamville to start a new life. Armed only with a love of people, a knowledge of Australian dreamtime legends and a thirst like an empty sponge for his new environment.

He sat on the steps pondering his life and smiling happy at the fact that he had found his little niche and was more than happy to be surrounded by the friends he had amassed since he arrived here six months ago.
