INTRODUCING WALTER! |
| Walter saw one of the young riders driving
a wagon into town. He was trying to recall the young riders name and also wondering
who those two gals were with him. He had never seen them before. Even though he might not
be able to recall everyones name, he knew the faces of everyone who lived in town
and about a 50-mile radius all around town. It was his business to know about people. He
had to keep track of peoples loans, how much money they had in the bank, and try to
talk the ones who didnt have their money in the bank to put it in there for safe
keeping. Walter had been extremely lucky, while traveling to visit a friend, that he had
found Dreamville blossoming into a town before any other bankers had. He liked the town
and most of the people in and near it. It finally dawned on him. The young riders name was Hickok. The hotheaded temperamental young rider for the pony express. Walter had tried several times to get Hickok to put his money in the bank, but had failed miserably. The other pony express riders kept their money in the bank, but that hardheaded Hickok wouldnt succumb to Walters persuasiveness. Walter watched as Hickok helped the little one down but the older gal helped herself down on the other side, the same side Hickok had got down from. Walter wondered why they had pulled up near the saloon and the newspaper office. But he didnt have to wonder why for long. The older gal pulled something out of her overalls pocket and went up to the newspaper office door. Now Walter knew what she had taken out of her pocket. It must have been a key, a key to the newspaper office. He watched as all three entered the office. Curiosity got the better of Walter and he just had to know how the gal had come by a key to the newspaper office that had been empty for three months since Mr. Hagan, the owner of the newspaper office, had left town. So Walter went over to introduce himself to the gals. Jimmy shook his head as he saw Walter in the doorway. "Cant you at least let them get settled first before you swoop down on them." Disgusted Jimmy shook his head again. Walter ignored Jimmy but Melissa didnt. She looked at Jimmy and said, "Who is he?" But before Jimmy could say any more, Walter took Jacyellas hand and kissed it while saying, "Im Walter Simmons at your service, maam. And you are?" Jacyella quickly pulled her hand back and to hide her nervousness she said, "Im Jacyella Hagan, owner of this establishment." "So youre J. L. Hagans daughter. I should have known. You have his mannerisms and same charming smile. Jimmy rolled his eyes and Melissa imitated him. "No! Im his granddaughter." Jacyella quickly correctly him. "Oh! Well, you still have a lot of him in you. And is that your lovely daughter?" Walter asked. "Nope! Shes my sister." Jacyella replied. Melissa whispered so that only Jimmy heard her. "One more strike and youre out. Out of here I hope." She saw Jimmy smirk at her comment and she smiled back at him. "And a very lovely sister she is. So youre going to run the newspaper or are you going to sale it. If youre going to sale it, maybe I could help you for a percentage of course." Walter suggested. "No Mr. Simmons! Im not saling it. Im going to make a go of it." Jacyella scanned the room. The first thing her and Melissa would have to do would be to clean and straighten the place. "Were going to make a go of it." Melissa smiled at her sister and Jacyella smiled back. "Were going to make a go of it!" Jacyella repeated for Mr. Simmons to show that they were very serious. Walter figured he better let them get settled in before he talked to them about putting their money in the bank and besides it would be better if he did it when Mr. Hickok wasnt around. So he bid the gals ado and went onto the restaurant to have lunch. Jimmy also said goodbye to the gals. He had already told Jacyella that he would get a couple of the pony express fellas to go back with him and help him bury her horse. Jacyella offered to pay him but he declined saying what are friends for if they cant help out one another now and then. After the fellas left, Jacyella and Melissa looked over the place from front to back. In the back were a couple of little rooms, a kitchen and a bedroom with only one bed. They would have to share the bed for now until Jacyella could get another one. They would be living there at the newspaper office to save on expenses. They would begin cleaning and straightening later that evening but first the gals were starving, so they went to find some lunch. |
INTRODUCING TED! |
| Ted watched as Walter left the bank and
through the window he saw Walter enter the newspaper office. It looks like the newspaper
might finally have an owner. It would be good to get to read some news for a change. He
especially liked reading the story by some girl named Jocelyne. Some girl in town really
had a big crush on Buck. He secretly wished that someone would fall in love with him like
that. He wouldnt even mind if the lady wrote it in a secret story about him and her.
But alas he just wasnt the attractive type. Ted was glad he had found Dreamville one day when he was just out traveling the country side trying to find a friendly place to call home. He didn't have many friends in town, only two, Teaspoon and Walter, but the people were pleasant enough. It had been three months ago since Mr. Hagan, the owner of the newspaper building, had left town. He didnt know why Mr. Hagan had up and left. He just knew that Mr. Hagan had left his life savings in the bank and had told Mr. Walter if any of his family came to town they were to be able to use any of his money if they needed it. He had given Walter a list with a few names on it. He had seen the list by accident one day. It was lying on Walters desk when he was in the office filing a loan report. There were three names on the list and they were Ella, Jacyella and Melissa. He wondered what the three ladies looked like and if they were Mr. Hagans sisters. Bringing his mind back to the here and now, he hoped that Walter wouldnt trick those young girls into anything. He knew Walter could be ruthless when it came to business. He also hoped that Walter and Hickok wouldnt get into a fight. He had seen Hickok explode a few times with several drunks and who knows what might have happened if Teaspoon hadnt of stepped in. Jimmy had walked away disgusted and angry because Teaspoon had intervened. He watched as Walter left the building and soon after Jimmy followed. Well neither one seemed to be in an angry mood, so nothing bad had happened. That was good. Ted went back to looking over some loan requests that Walter had denied for lack of collateral. |
