JUNE 1, 1860

Absalom drove his ma into Dreamville, and as they drove in they both noticed the new establishment in town. They also noticed three men entering the place. "I wonder what Le Chateau is, ma?"

"Maybe its another restaurant." She said as she climbed down.

But Simon had overheard her, "No maam. Its a bordello."

"A bordello?" Dumbfounded Prudence stared at the building while Absalom started unloading the wagon.

"Yes maam, a bordello." Simon repeated.

"Javier, come out here son." Simon called. As Javier stepped out, Simon said, "We could use your help." Simon leaned the broom against the wall of the store and went to the wagon followed by his son. The three fellas carried their loads into the store while Prudence still stared at the hideous bordello. She didnt like those places. Never had, never will.

Prudence had a great time with Steven at the picnic. He had won third place in the wood-chopping contest. She really felt good when she was around him. She wasnt quite sure what he saw in her though. She wasnt what anybody would call pretty, and many times she had wondered why he had asked her to the picnic and not somebody else. She figured it was because most of the unattached girls in town were much younger than him, but now with the bordello in town he might turn his attentions elsewhere. She didnt like the thought of that. Well, there wasnt anything she could do about it. She sighed, and then went to help unload the wagon.

After the wagon was unloaded, Prudence asked Simon if he had heard anything about the wedded couple. Were they expecting? She had heard rumors and someone had bought them a bassinet as a wedding present that she had delivered to Simon several weeks ago. Unfortunately, Simon had not heard one way or another. They would just have to wait and see.

"You know Prudence if your ever in town on Thursday nights you might want to come out to the Grand Square Ranch, thats Caller Bobs place. Theyre going to be having square dancin."

"But I dont know how to square dance." Prudence said as she wondered why Simon was telling her this.

"Theyre having square dancin lessons, too, and I know Steven is going to volunteer to help the students." He grinned at his mischievous plan to get the two together more.

While Javier and Absalom were outside discussing the bordello, Javier also mentioned the square dancing lessons that were going to be taking place.

"You should come by Caller Bobs some time when youre in town on a Thursday for square dancin lessons. Its going to be fun, and it starts June 22. I know Kathleen is going to be taking lessons." Javier said as he tried to coax Absalom in to coming. He knew Absalom didnt know how to square dance, but he wanted someone else there around his own age. Javier was going to volunteer because Lilly was signing up to learn how to square dance.

"Ill try to come when we are in town." Anywhere Kathleen was going to be, Absalom wanted to be there, too.

Prudence came outside and said, "Come on son, its time to get moving." Prudence and Absalom waved goodbye to Simon and Javier as they headed out of town.
