Hank Williams' Final Resting Place

On January 4th, 1953 the lid on Hank Williams silver lined casket was closed for good. He was buried in Montgomery's Oak Wood Cemetery and several years later a monument was erected over his grave. Today thousands visit his grave each year to pay their respects to the old Drifting Cowboy. A poem written by his ex-wife Audrey Williams scrolls the back of the towering tombstone. Titles of his most popular songs and a cowboy hat sit at the base. The top is engraved with the notes to "I Saw The Light" and the lines "Now I'm So Happy, No Sorrow In Sight" are etched above a bronze picture of Hank.

In 1974, when Audrey died, she was buried to Hank's right and the monument was completed. Also resting on the Williams family lot are his mother, Lillian, and sister Irene.
