ELVIS

The Meditation Garden

Elvis is not known to have expressed an intention to br buried in the Meditation Garden. But, in October 1977, after Elvis death on August 16, 1977, his father Vernon had the bodies of Elvis and his mother Gladys moved from nearby forest Hill Cemetery to Graceland for security reasons. In 1979, Vernon Presley was laid to rest between his wife and son. In 1980, Elvis paternal grandmother, Minnie Mae Presley was buried to the left of Elvis grave. Also in the the garden is a small bronze tablet in memory of Elvis twin brother Jessie Garon Presley who was stillborn and whose grave site is still in Tupelo.
The IHS(In His Service) marble family monument was originally in the family plot at forest Hill Cemetery. It was moved here in 1977. Elvis loved his home and the Meditation Garden was a special part of it. It is fitting that this garden has become his final resting place.

Elvis constructed his beautiful Meditation Garden in the mid-1960s as a place of refuge and peace. It consists of a curving brick wall with stained glass windows, shrubs and sidewalks, a centrally located pond with fountain, and is appointed with a semi-circle of Greek inspired colums.
