Well I learned to play that guitar, some lessons and some on my own. When I was around eleven years young, my family and I were vacationing in upstate New York. We were staying at a hotel called the Aladdin. There was a talent night contest my mom Barbara had entered me in, just so happens I had my Harmony guitar with me.
When the night arrived I remember being very nervous. My name was called and I went up on stage, sat on a wooden stool in front of a huge microphone. My family was in the audience waiting in anticapation. My aunt Rose, my moms sister was there to see and hear me as well.
I performed the song "Love" There were the hotels musicians behind me and I remember looking over at the drummer and he motioned to me to smile. I must have been very tense at the moment, so he made me feel at ease.
What my mom said to me came true, I did learn to play the guitar for her and made her very happy and proud that day. I didn't win the contest, but I have a cherished memory I will always hold close to my heart.
Two months before my 13th birthday, my Mom Barbara passed away on Oct 31, 1971. This candle
