Now Model and Act

After parting ways with Epic Records last year, Shana moved to Chicago. She's taken up modeling and acting - you may have seen her in a Head & Shoulders shampoo commercial. But don't worry - she still travels to Nashville often to write songs, and may be shopping around for a new record deal soon.

Why does Shana have flakes on her sweater?

I ran into the lovely/talented/totally cute Shana Petrone over the weekend at The Mall at Green Hills, and the ex-Epic Records artist looks freakin' fabulous!

You may remember Shana (pronounced SHAW-na) from her hot video for her 1999 single Something Real, a video that has Shana stripping away beauty aids, wigs, etc., until she's left in a swimsuit.

Shana, 29, says she and the label parted ways last year, and she has moved to Chicago, where her fitness guru boyfriend lives. But Shana hasn't given up on music. She still comes to Nashville to write songs, and Shana may be looking for a deal again soon.

Meanwhile, Shana's doing some modeling, and her first national campaign, for Head & Shoulders shampoo, hits TV and newspapers/magazines Aug. 15.

Gotta love those dandruff shampoo commercials. So Shana, have you ever actually had dandruff?

"NO! I never did," she said, adding quickly: "Oh, wait! I have to say I did. I did. I DID! But then I started using Head & Shoulders, and . . . "

Does your family have a particular family tradition for Christmas?
"We take a walk on the beach...I'm from Florida."

Is there a certain dish your family serves up at Christmas?
"My mom makes spanakopita every year. It's a Greek dish made with phyllo dough, spinach and feta cheese. It is so-o-o good."

SHANA PETRONE'S SHOE BUSINESS

Newcomer Shana Petrone, whose sensual video, "Something Real," is turning heads on CMT, wasn't always able to make a living singing. As a struggling Florida high school grad, she also had to wait tables and, for a while, was a shoe model. "Being a shoe model isn't as easy as it sounds," Petrone says. "You have to put just the right spin on your runway turn to show off everything but the soles." Her debut album, also titled Something Real, is scheduled for release in early 2000.

Shana Petrone Knows What's Real

Shana Petrone's latest video, "Something Real," deals with ridding life of superficial things and getting back to the basics. Petrone got a great lesson in knowing what's basic and real when she made her move to Nashville from Hollywood, Fla. Just 100 miles south of Music City, Petrone's old car broke down.

"My first thought was, 'Where's my dad when I need him?'" she says. Thinking that her prayers were answered, she saw a pay phone and tried to call for help using a calling card but the calling card wouldn't work. Next, the aspiring young singer tried her credit card, also to no avail. Ultimately, Petrone made her Nashville entrance riding in the passenger seat of a tow truck with only $40 left in her pocket.

So what's next? What's in the plan for Shana now?

"We're currently setting up some track dates, in different cities to try to tie in club stuff with radio stations. And of course working with the band would be the ideal situation, but financially right now, we're just going to try to get out there and go to the clubs and do some track dates and meet people. I did some track things back in Florida. It's a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to it."

What happened to Shana? Is she still putting out an album?

Here's The Facts
Her material was a bit too "pop" so she was soundly rejected by country radio at the time. They actually pulled back her first album and went back into the studio to work on it. Her first single is now due out in April and her album by late Fall. Hopefully, a video will be created for the new single, as well.
