Ole' Joe
I met an ole' man,
Wallkin' one day,
Tallkin' to himself
Ya might say.
I said, '' May I help you?
Lend a han'. ''
Oh no, 'ceptin' charity
Wasn't in his plan.
The memories he spoke of;
The life he'd led,
Made me wonder to myself,
Did he wish he were dead?
Joe had lost his wife,
Children too,
For the comfort of a bottle;
The '' devil's due. ''
The crash musta broke him,
To see him hobble now.
He'd been at the wheel
But he don't ra member how....
"Drivin' an Drinkin', son,
Won't git ya no wheres.
Look at me, 'member
Tha high cost it bears.
