Home Page Tips For The Beginner...

Well, I had this page done at one time. That seems like it was in another time. I have learned a very valuable lesson since that first tips page. I know my first tip used to be to keep a note book. That was before my dreaded crash of a section of my home pages. The most important thing I can tell you is to Save Everything on Disk!!!!! I can only wish I would have been that smart to start with! But, this is a game of trial and error! *LOL*

Here is my list of home page tips. I do hope they help you in starting and creating your own home pages. If you have any other suggestions, tips, or helpful information that you would like to see past on, feel free to email me with them. I will gladly include them here. I too am just a beginner at this and am still learning.

Keep back up copies of all of your pages!!! They could come in handy!

Start a notebook. Keep lists of all of your URL's for your pages, images, links, important information, and any other items that you want to include.

Find a home page server and start with the basics. I have found a few good places to get started with. They are Angelfire, Tripod, Geocities, and XOOM. They each have a simple registration, are free, and very easy to use basic editors.

Start your pages with the basic editors. They are simple to use and can create some very interesting home pages. Once you start to learn how to write in pure html language, you can always convert them to a more advanced editor.

Do not convert to the advanced editors until you are ready to! HTML is easy to learn once you get started, but can be very confusing if you are not used to it.

There are a few sights on the web to learn about HTML language. The one I used the most was Barebones Guide to HTML. Angelfire also has a very easy to follow basic HTML guide. Do not be afraid to print these pages and use them for reference.

There are several other sites on the web that will help you to design unique pages. Some of these are Guest World, this is a free guest book sight. It is easy to install.

There are a lot of people who will share their images with you on the net. You should save these images to your own server instead of linking to their servers. It is better than having them remove or move the image and leave you with a broken picture. For a complete listing of the places where I got my graphics, see my graphics link. Angelfire, Tripod, and Geocities each have graphics, lines, buttons, gifs and more that you can use on your pages.

Visit other sites on the net! If you see one you like, you can see how they wrote the HTML for that page. It is simple to do. If you have Netscape, click the view menu and go to view source. With Internet Explorer and America On Line, simply click on the right mouse button and go to view source. If this does not give you what you want to see how they did, by clicking on the right mouse button, and then clicking on properties, it will give you information on the image.

Don't be afraid to ask other people how they did certain things with their pages. Most people are very willing to share their knowledge with you.

Remember to have fun with your pages. If you get frustrated, walk away for a while. If you make a mistake, start over. Don't be afraid to try things with your pages.

Have fun creating your own home pages!
